About this listen

The No.1 bestseller returns with a nail-biting new PC Phil McCarthy book. If you loved When You Are Mine or are hunting for thrillers that make you think and feel, you won't want to miss this.

As the daughter of a London crime boss, PC Philomena McCarthy walks a thin blue line keeping the two sides of her complicated life apart.

On patrol one night she discovers a child in pyjamas, wandering alone. Taking Daisy home, Phil uncovers the aftermath of a deadly home invasion, as three miles away a prominent jeweller is found strapped to an explosive in his ransacked store.

The crimes are linked, and all the evidence points to Phil's father as the mastermind.

Phil's two worlds are colliding, trapping her in the middle of a vicious gang war that will threaten her career and everyone she loves.

I raced through The White Crow. It's another tour de force from Michael Robotham. He is so good at humanising his characters - even the nasty ones (LINWOOD BARCLAY)
It's a rare treat to read crime fiction and adore the entire ensemble of characters. Everyone from PC Philomena McCarthy to Detective Keegan to Eddie McCarthy and his three old-school criminal brothers is so beautifully drawn - you tear through the pages praying they can be trusted. A tense, fast-moving and hard to put down novel
The research is impeccable, the plot simple: a kind of Good versus Evil, building to a fiery shoot-out on Bonfire Night . . . And who can not be engaged by a girl [PC Philomena McCarthy] who can talk to small children, has a black belt in karate and who can kill a villain with a kick?

Michael Robotham always delivers and his books are so good it’s difficult to do them the right sort of justice in a review. Fascinating to see how he untangled this web! Can’t wait for the next! That’s all. Thank you.

The characters were well formed and realistic. The storyteller gave them character. The only thing that disappointed me was the ending. It felt a bit rushed after all the build up. Maybe it was just a reaction to the book finishing.

Great listen

I’ve read all Michael Robotham’s books so it’s exciting to have a new series, protagonist and character storylines to explore. I enjoyed both Philomena McCarthy books but as a series, I was left disappointed by plot holes in the second book. I would have loved the two books to link more closely, however it felt like Michael focused more on catering to people who hadn’t read the first book, rather than to those that have, and forgot to address big questions like how’d she return to the line of duty after her first suspension, what happened to the usb exposing corruption etc.

Good read, but series plot holes
