Publisher's Summary

Is Ethan Smith friend or foe? Enemy or lover?

After being left at the altar on her wedding day, big city financier Allie Strickland returns to her quirky hometown hoping for peace and quiet to get over her fiancé’s betrayal.

But on the very first night, Allie’s nerves are shattered when an unexpected intruder breaks into the house while she’s taking a bubble bath. The intruder is devastatingly handsome, but she soon learns that he’s using a fake name and has old ties to Heartland Cove.

Forced by unusual circumstances to share the same rental house, Allie’s suspicions of the man grow - even as she finds herself attracted to him. But is Ethan Smith merely a freelancer on a magazine assignment as he claims - or an undercover spy for the mayor who wants to ruin the small-town charm by running a new highway through for his own profit?

When her ex-fiancé shows up out of the blue one night begging for a second chance, who can Allie trust - or will her own heart betray her?

Sweet and Beautiful Story - Amazing Narration!

This was my first Kimberley Montpetit's book. I love this small town story. Allie and Ethan are great characters, and they share a beautiful chemistry. This is a sweet, and beautiful story. Ethan is an handsome man, protective, and caring. The secondary characters are also interesting. This was a fun and heartwarming listen. Sarah Sampino did a great narration. She has a beautiful voice, easy to understand. The quality audio is amazing (no background sounds, no echo). I enjoyed my listening. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.

Great Escape Audio

A second chance romance that is a “feel good -great escape “ audio. The main characters Allie and Ethan are both likable and by a chance meeting begin a friendship that develops into a more intimate relationship. The narrator Sarah Sampino helps to bring this story to life with her performance. She is most able to develop each character’s dialogue that is distinct and lays the groundwork for the story. Her narration successfully captures emotion and the life of the story making it easy for one to hold interest in this audio. A fun read that is sure to help one escape the day’s trials and tribulations. Highly recommended.

A Wonderful 2nd Chance at Love! Great Listen🎧

The Neighbor’s Secret is a delightful and sweet story. Life does not always goes as plans but sometimes works out for the better. This book is well written, the storylines and characters are interesting and well developed. The chemistry between Allie and Ethan was amazing, and might i add he is a sweetheart of a man. I liked all the characters, with the exception of Sean, who was a jerk. I recommend this enjoyable book, there were some sad moments, some funny, some dramatic with a few twists and some romance. I listened to the Audible edition, Sarah Sampino is a wonderful narrator and storyteller. She performs all the voices and brings the characters to life. She sets the perfect tone for the story and adds a nice dramatic flair. Thank you for another great & entertaining listen!

A wonderful story of growth and love!

Well written and narrated, I really enjoyed the descriptions of the scenery and people. This story is unique in the way it looks at different peoples responses to heartbreak and the circumstances surrounding the events. No one wants to believe that they will treat other unkindly when hurt, but that is often not the reality. In this book Allie is often lashing out at those around her and is suspicious of Ethan and his motives. Ethan is patient, often more than we might think he should be. But that is the true definition of love, seeing past the actions to what is really going on with those we care about. Allie is horribly hurt when her fiance leaves her at the alter to work. She returns to her hometown to escape seeing him and helps her family at their business. Ethan knows Allie is hurting and that healing takes time, he tries to just be a friend even though he is falling in love with her. When her fiance comes to town to get her back Allie must decide where she belongs. When tragedy strikes and everyone around her is affected Allie finds out who will stand by her side no matter what.

Entertaining Canadian Contemporary Romance

Although I’m usually a historical romance fan, The Neighbor’s Secret caught me off guard with how entertaining it was. It reminded me of a Hallmark Channel movie with a not so awesome boyfriend/fiancé at the beginning of the story, and a charming small town, and a relatively clean romance. The story begins with Allie Strickland extremely excited to be marrying a Toronto lawyer after five years of dating. She’s packed up her apartment and put everything in storage so it can be moved easily after the honeymoon. However, Allie's fiancé is a self-centered jerk who ends up leaving her at the altar via text message because something came up at work - who only an hour before the wedding said he was on his way to the church. Unable to stay in Toronto any longer, Allie takes a leave of absence at work and she moves back to her small hometown of Heartland Cove in New Brunswick, Canada. The town is simply charming with a booming tourist industry where people flock to see the longest covered bridge in the entire world. Allie quickly moves out of her parents’ house after she rents an adorable Victorian home for the summer. But her singleton bliss is soon disturbed when the owner of the house - Ethan Smith - moves in the same day unbeknownst to the rental company. Because Ethan has no where else to go, Allie begrudgingly agrees that he can stay in the downstairs en suite bedroom as she takes the upstairs room. The pair soon begin to share meals together and an easy friendship quickly develops. The chemistry between Allie and Ethan is natural and their relationship is charming with easy conversations. Plus there are a few plot twists that keep the story interesting. I listened to the audiobook of The Neighbor’s Secret written by Kimberly Montpetit and narrated by Sarah Sampino. The narration is good with differing voices for all of the female and male leads. I was totally immersed while listening and the nearly 6 hours it took seemed half that long. Recommended.

Sweet, clean romance

Story: 3.5 stars The story was good if a tad predictable. I liked that the girl didn't move on so quickly that you wondered if she really loved her former fiancé; she went through believable grieving period. She pushed the hero away pretty consistently. He had the patience of a saint and waited until she got through her grieving. The relationship between the heroine and her mother was only too accurate, and yet, we readers saw no real reason for her rejection of her mom. Her mom would reach out to try to help, but only end up annoying her daughter. There is an HEA and the build-up to it is lovely. *spoiler alert* There were a couple of elements that I found to be unrealistic. His agreeing to allow her friend to set up a photography business in his house...there was never a conversation where our intrepid heroine asked for permission to do this (at least not in my memory, but I was listening on audiobook, maybe I was distracted when that part was read?) That the hero just happened to be there to rescue her from the fire...it's great that he was, but what were the odds? Narration: 3 stars The voice actress did a pretty good job. Her male voice is subtly different from her female voice, enough to tell a difference most of the time. Those seem to be her only two voices. Good inflections, speed of reading, and overall narrating. *poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special

It Started Out Good

This book grabbed me and held me tight till o got to ch6 then the record scratched and stopped. She renting the house temporarily and quick as a snap of the fingers and she knows the owners will eventually come to work on or sell the house. The realtor told her she can't keep up with the responsibility of her properties. the man bust in the bathroom and she tell em she will kill him while she in the tub naked and can't even grab a towel. A string of the dumbest stuff come out her mouth and I say, if she say one more dumb thing I am quitting this book. The book was officially ruined for me. Good luck with it.

Had potential

This story had potential. I liked the story until the ex showed up. Spoiler: The heroine inner and external dialogue was so dumb. I guess she liked a guy who treated her as a secondary lover. The author dragged the story a bit. For a girl who was stood up at the altar, she had no backbones to stand up for herself. Also, why she didn’t block the ex number? She complained how annoying his text and phone calls yet she didn’t block his number. Oh well, on to the next one.

A sweet romance

This was a lovely, sweet, romance. There were a couple of exciting scenes but what I loved most was the humour between them as they got to know each other while house sharing. Ethan was adorable! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reading audio copy.

A Fun Listen

There are some really unique aspects to this clean romance. The storyline of being left at the alter is one that I haven't personally come across before, but I'm sure its not entirely unique. I really loved these characters, they were just super cute and I loved seeing how the author built up Allie and Ethan's relationship. This was a fun clean romance with some comical moments thrown in. Loved this new to me author's writing. Also, the ex-fiance is a total jerk. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job bringing out Allie's emotions throughout and just making these characters even more likeable in general. There was clear differentiation of character voices and her voice was clear. I think she was a perfect fit for this story. Although the arrator is new to me, I look forward to more of her work. I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Sweet, fun romance

Fun! Fun! Fun! The Neighbor's Secret is a sweet, fun romance full of love, hope and of course secrets. Allie is left at the alter by her fiance, minutes before they are supposed to be married. Reeling from the hurt, she heads to her hometown and rents the first house she can find. Just close enough to her family, but giving her the privacy she needs, Allie begins to settle in when someone enters the house! Ethan Smith, the owner of the house is moving in, the realtor making an error. These two are at each other in the beginning, but once they decide to share the house, things begin to change. What we don't know, is all the secrets Ethan holds and will the attraction between Allie and Ethan grow to be more than lust! And what of Allie's ex? Will there ever be closure? This is full of a few plot twists that lead to Allie's growth and understanding of herself. Life never goes as expected and this book shows how to make the most of the surprises! Sarah Sampino narrates the story with the hurt, frustration and hope throughout the story. I am enjoying her performances, giving life to the characters and bringing the story out in a way that I truly can feel the characters emotions. She does a wonderful portrayal and I look forward to more of this series.

Sweet romance

Sweet romance about a woman who was left at the alter and is now afraid to let herself fall in love again, even when she meets someone she is really attracted to.
