Publisher's Summary

The last thing Sara Flannigan needs is a man in her life. When she returns to her hometown, she vows to create a happy life for her son and to rebuild her life after a painful divorce. Yet when she meets her son’s new doctor, she can’t deny the spark of attraction that heats between them.

The problem? He’s Harrison Thornton, the oldest son of the illustrious Thornton family. His family would never accept a woman like Sara, a woman who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. She tries to ignore the whispers of her past, but she soon realizes secrets can never stay hidden for long. Especially from the man claiming her wounded heart.

Growing up in the rich and powerful Thornton family, Harrison has lived a charmed life. A renowned physician, the last thing he expects is to desire the mother of one of his patients. Sara is beautiful and intelligent, and she’s completely devoted to her son, something that only deepens his attraction to her. He doesn't want a single night of passion, though: He wants forever. Yet there are forces at work and people determined to tear them apart. Even Sara turns from him, certain she's unworthy.

Harrison refuses to let Sara slip away, and soon, he’s fighting the greatest battle of all: the battle to win the heart of the woman he loves.

Great story!💜

This was a great story with wonderful characters. There were a lot of avenues this story could have taken and didn’t but perhaps they will appear in the next book in this series. Lots of charm, romance mixed with a touch of drama. The narration was very good with the exception of a couple of areas I enjoyed this book very much.

Wonderful

This is the first book that I have listen to from this author and the first time I’ve listened to these narrators and I throughly enjoyed all of it.
I was a little worried in the beginning that this book was going to be sad and emotional (you’ll understand why after the first few chapters) but that’s not the direction the story went. I love watching the relationship between the characters grow and I’m interested to see what will happen in the next book.

Amazing listen!

This story is filled with so many emotions that drag you in and keep you hooked until the very end! Once I started this book, I could not stop listening. I spent so much time ignoring everything around me just so I could get more time to listen. Iris Morland did an amazing job developing this story and all of the characters. I am excited to continue the rest of the series!

The narration was beyond amazing! Jeffrey Kafer is definitely a rock star narrator in my book and I will listen to anything by him! This was the first book I have listened to with Heather Costa and she quickly became a favorite for me! I will definitely be buying everything I can that she narrates!

Great Beginning of Series Stand Alone

I received the 2nd book free so I bought this one, the 1st. You don't need to do that because they are each stand alone. However, this in excellent story. The narrator did a great job of providing an excellent story. Looking forward to the next in this series. The narrators did a good job with the characters and their personalities.

Sweet and Sexy!

This was my first Iris Morland's book and won't be my last. This is the first book in The Thorntons Series, a small town story. This is a great introduction to this Series. Sara and Harrison's story is sweet and sexy. Sara's son is adorable. I loved this story, the characters (maybe not all characters), the storyline, and the happy ending. Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer did a great job with the narration. I love their voices together. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook, and can't wait for the next book in the Series. #AudiobookObsession

A sweet yet steamy story

OMG, who could ever resist a gorgeous, rich, doctor? Sarah is so lucky to have Trace after a horrible marriage. Trace is everything Kyle is not. I instantly fell in love with the idea of them. Only had to wait until Sarah did too. Trace is so kind, understanding and protective. Sarah has been hurt so badly, her trust issues win more times than not. With having dealt with a sick child, Sarah is stronger than ever. She also had a reputation that is hard to forget. The few twists were perfectly written and added so much drama to this story, I was hooked. I could not stop listening.

Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer brought this story to life. They both have voices that are easy to listen to and even easier to get lost in. Heather is the perfect Sarah. Heather's ability to bring out all of Sarah's emotions so that I felt them too was amazing. Her male voices were easy to distinguish. Jeffrey is a wonderful Trace. Jeffrey helped to create the strong, protective and loving character that Trace is. His female voices were smooth and did not feel forced. I look forward to hearing more from these two.

loving someone out of your league...

Sara Flannigan and Harrison Thornton couldn't be more wrong for each other. After all, she grew up poor, with an alcoholic mother, basically raising her younger sister, and living with the stigma of being the HS slut. Harrison, was in college when she was in HS but Sara was aware of the eldest Thornton, and his wealthy family. Now she's back home, 10 yrs later, with her 1st grader who's a cancer survivor, and his pediatric oncologist is the dashing Dr. Harrison Thornton. The chemistry between Sara and Harrison is palpable but can the relationship even get off the ground with the town against them? This is a well written story, with a meddling, manipulative mother who is intent on destroying the relationship...will it survive or will Sara give up? Throw in Sara's tool of an ex and you have the right amount of angst. Good story...looking forward to more.

The Nearness of you

I enjoyed reading about the trials and struggle that Sara and Harrison went through. They may be from the same town but are worlds apart. It was a serious battle of the heart verses the world, type of story. 🎧Audiobookobsession

Decent listen

This one hits me in the heart because I have a daughter and I cannot imagine watching her deal with cancer.

Iris Morland wrote a lovely story about a single mom who falls for her child’s dr.

Heather and Jeffery both did a good job narrating.

Okay but too rushed

I'm not sure how I feel about this book, it confused me a lot. The plot was good, but it wasn't really executed particularly well. It seemed rushed to me. It was pretty much insta love, which is fine if there is huge chemistry between the H & H, but I didn't get that with Harrison and Sara. There were also parts of the story that were glossed over and we never saw a conclusion to - the bitter ex, the high school bully and the vitriolic mother. The narrators were okay, although I thought the male sounded too old for the part and too Mills and Boon for me. Not sure I'd bother listen to any of the rest of the series

Beautiful story but.....

The story is beautiful and filled with emotions. The only thing making this a downturn for me was the female voice; I couldn’t get used to it and in the end I was happy when I’ve finished the book. If it wasn’t for the great male voice I probably wouldn’t have finished.
Anyway, the storyline is good and it progresses nicely to a happy ending.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
The chemistry between the main characters is building steadily and there’s some hot love scenes.

Narrators:
As mentioned I’m not fully satisfied with the female voice and it’s not because of anything other than the quality of her voice. Otherwise it’s read with feelings and has good pronunciation.
The male voice is great in every way.

Could have been a home run, fell a bit short

This is a typical storyline with one of the main characters being a pampered silver spoon in his/her mouth and the other character is from the “other side of the tracks”. In comes snooty family with their self-righteous ways and over indulgent personalities. So, Sara is the one from the other side of the track. She’s a single mom that loves and lives for her son. Harrison is the man with the silver spoon, still held by his over-bearing mother.

So, I struggle a bit with the story. I felt like it lost that empathy feel we have for Sara with her situation with her son. It went a little more heavily on the romance, sexual side of the story. I think it was a bit missed opportunity to be a really great book. All the elements were there. It just fell a bit short for me. The narration done by Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer was done very well. Really I didn’t have an issue with the narration. I liked them as the characters fairly well.

The Nearness of You

Sara was raised in the wrong art of town, and didnt have a great upbringing with everyone from town knowing her moms business. Harrison on the other hand was from the golden family of the town and had a completely different life. Now Sara is divorced with a son that may have cancer again, and Harrison is the Dr. she takes her son to. You will feel all of the emotions from this book. The narration from Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer was so very smooth and well done.

It Was Like Telling A Story!

Most audiobooks I've listened to have been more like, an actual conversation that I was listening to. Unfortunately with, "The Nearness With You: The Thorntons, Book 1" was more like having a story being read to you by someone, and they would change their voice to distinguish the different characters in the book for those who were listening to it being read.

I do want to make one thing clear, the author; Iris Morland, wrote a beautiful romantic love story. It dealt with real issues that many people can relate to on a daily basis. It has the meddling mom, serious health possibility, a divorce parent having problems with the ex, and finally a couple trying to make it work when there's so many reasons why it can't.

Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer told a very sweet heartfelt love story. I would have no problem recommending this novel to others.
