Publisher's Summary
An enthralling and inventive thriller, only on Audible
Thirteen-year-old Emily Poe has been given the opportunity of a lifetime: A chance to attend the exclusive Audyn School in Manhattan. But to win the scholarship, she has to pass a test like nothing she’s ever experienced before: A nearly bare room, a set of strange clues, a locked door. And a mysterious organization - the Leopold Foundation - that’s watching her every move.
But the real test has just begun. Despite the strange circumstances - in a new house, at a new school - Emily instantly bonds with fellow scholarship winner Alice Wray.
And then Alice goes missing.
Chronicling every surprising twist and turn of her search through her own private video diary, Emily sets out to find the truth behind Alice’s disappearance. Soon she’s drawn deep into the inner circle of the Audyn School’s elite, the Nobility, who each have secrets of their own. As clues and lies mount, Emily must sort truth from fiction to solve the Mystery of Alice before it’s too late.

The best book I've listened to so far!
This audio book was exceptional. The plot, capturing all of Emily's twists and turns, got me thinking more and more about what was going to happen next. The start was kinda boring and I almost got rid of it! Boy, would that have been a mistake. The author has exquisite writing skills and I will recommend this book to everyone I know. The narrators are awesome! Even though they're American I can still understand them even when the volume's turned right down. Everyone who has contributed to this book should be proud of the effort put into this. Good job guys! From your average happy audiobook listener.😁

Surprisingly Enjoyable
While initially I was uncertain, I enjoyed the narrator's crisp, clear voice and kept going. I agree that it might really be better suited for a younger (tweens, teens) audience, but as I listened I forgot the ages of the main characters except when occasionally reminded of their youth. Frankly, most of the speech and sentence structure didn't sound like middle-school age children to me. I was drawn in and found myself plugging in to listen when I had a few extra minutes to spare. I will admit I did increase the narration speed a bit at one point.

Cruel Intentions X Scooby-Doo Cross Over
The ebook Mystery of Alice is a watered down version of Cruel Intentions with a dash of Scooby-Doo Mystery. The characters are one dimensional and the “plot twist” is obvious half way through the book. If you want to blow through 6 hours of your life, this is the story for you. BONUS: I wasn’t able to find a summary of the book online, so I wrote one myself. (I’m not a professional writer, I tried my best, don’t @ me). **SPOILER ALERT** The story is told in a Video Diary fashion by Main character, Emily Poe. She, along with secondary character, Alice, pass an “escape room” type test sponsored by the Leopold Foundation, they both win a scholarship to the Private School Audyn. At the school they befriend a smart “techy” student named Nathan. We are then introduced to the central Antagonists, 4 popular kids (2 boys and 2 girls), referred to as “The Nobility.” They befriend Alice and she becomes the 5th member of their clique, she starts distancing herself from Emily and Nathan, no longer being their friend. Things take a strange turn and Alice starts to believe she is being followed, she then suddenly disappears. At this point, The Nobility ask Emily to help them locate Alice. They believe Nathan having a strange obsession with Alice is the reason for her disappearance. This idea is reinforced when Nathan shows Emily, he was able to track Alice’s movement the night of her vanishing because a GPS weather app he created was downloaded on her smart phone. The following night, based on Nathan’s findings, she and The Nobility go to the building the escape room test was held by the Leopold Foundation. They find the building completely abandoned and no sign the foundation every existed. Back at Audyn, Nathan informs Emily the Leopold Foundation is a lie, everything about the company is shrouded in secrecy. He then gives her a gift meant for Alice, a video device disguised as a Pendant that lives streams whatever the user is recording. Later that night, Emily finds Alice’s diary and it states on the night of her disappearance Nathan tells her she can hide in his cabin in the woods. Emily takes an uber to the cabin and wears Nathan’s pendant necklace. There she finds an unharmed Alice and The Nobility. Its reveal, out of boredom, The Nobility planned the whole charade, from setting up the Leopold Foundation, bribing Alice to befriend Emily, and leaving clues regarding her disappearance. They advise Emily they are going to pin the blame on Nathan and kill her for solving the mystery. However, Emily reveals she is wearing the video pendant and their confession is being live streamed to the police. As police sirens are heard in the distance, they attempted to drown Emily but is saved by Alice. The story concludes with The Nobility and Alice are on trial for the crime, Emily receiving a full scholarship to Audyn, and Alice apologizing to Emily for her actions.

Different Sort of YA..No Love Triangle! YAY!
This story was ... different. The main character, Emily, was enjoyable. I loved her invention of new words. However, there were some times where I was thinking "you're 13, wtf are you doing?" But, I guess this is how kids today function? I was 13 in the '90s. A different time for sure. The only thing that distracted me was that she was supposed to be dictating through a "video diary" but she had to describe everything like we couldn't see it. I know, it's an audiobook, we can't see it. But it was still annoying. Great story overall. The twist at the end was soooo unexpected. Enjoyable narration by the cast. Their voices were great except that of Alice's. She sounded like she was 8 and not 13. Would listen again. I LOVED the mystery of the storyline. That was my favorite part of the entire story.

Worth a freebie, not a credit
The book was silly and unbelievable, but entertaining enough to get me through some mundane chores. The plot was fun and intriguing, but the writing itself was often bad (so many "she was like" and "I was all" teen moments that felt very forced) and the narration was a bit over the top. Also, the whole story would have made much more sense if the characters were high school aged, not twelve or thirteen. At the same time, the writing was very juvenile. It was like Diet YA. I chose it as one of my free originals and I'm okay with that, but would have returned it if I had spent a credit.

Overall meh; climax disappointing
The story would have better fit if it had been set in a private high school rather than a middle school. At least then it’d be much more believable. The mid part of the story was hard to get through and was focused too much on teenage drama. I almost stopped listening entirely. The ending was good overall though the climax was disappointing. The story ended tying up most loose ends though no final conclusion to what happened to the antagonist(s), just a statement that sounds more like speculation rather than concrete fact.

Only ok
It had a good plot. But after a while I wanted to pull my hair out listening to the main character using the word “like” and other teen type slang. I understand it is narrated from a teenage perspective, however ruined a lot of the story for me.

Meh
For a free book it was entertaining enough. I was curious to know how it would end which kept me listening but the story was lacking - unnecessary twists & turns without depth. I agree with the other reviewer that perhaps a teen would really enjoy this book. I must say that although the plot left much to be desired, the performance itself was well done.
