Publisher's Summary

Someone once told me that you have two families in your life - the one you are born into and the one you choose. Yes, you may get to choose your partner, but you don't choose your mother-in-law. The cackling mercenaries of fate determine it all.

From the moment Lucy met Diana, she was kept at arm's length. Diana is exquisitely polite, but Lucy knows, even after marrying Oliver, that they'll never have the closeness she'd been hoping for.

But who could fault Diana? She was a pillar of the community, an advocate for social justice, the matriarch of a loving family. Lucy had wanted so much to please her new mother-in-law.

That was 10 years ago. Now, Diana has been found dead, leaving a suicide note. But the autopsy reveals evidence of suffocation. And everyone in the family is hiding something....

From the best-selling author of The Family Next Door comes a new pause-resister about that trickiest of relationships.

Great listen.

Excellent. I liked her and disliked her. She gave me good ideas about inheritances and why we should give the subject a lot of thought before doing what is expected. Niknot.

Kept me hooked

Loved it. It isn't as much of a psychological thriller as I thought it would be. But I loved where it went. Quite emotional at times and I loved the slow-growing relationship between the main character and the mother-in-law. The 'who done it' was obvious to me from the start but it usually is. So that's nothing against the author. Besides, I don't think the mystery was the highlight of the book. It was the relationships and I really enjoyed it.

A great whodunnit

I love how the Mother in law’s voice was exactly as I pictured it. This story keeps you guessing until the very end.

excellent

I loved this book, both the way it was written and the way it was read. I particularly liked the fact there was a character called Netty as that is what people call me. I could not put this book down and listened every chance I got.

Audiobook perfection!

I absolutely loved this audiobook and found myself making excuses to linger longer in the car just so I could finish a chapter before heading in to work each morning lol. I found the storyline innovative and fresh and couldn't help but wonder how she dreamt it up. The characters were realistic and stayed true to form throughout the book. I enjoyed the narration and found the depiction of Diane hilarious at times. A book of depth, that layered the story in just the right way, at just the right time that the 'who-dunnit?' was almost inconsequential to the enjoyment of each character's story. The fact that it included a life lesson was an unexpected bonus. Highly recommended audiobook.

Had me on my toes

This book kept me on my toes and I couldn’t stop listening! I thought I’d guessed what had happened to her about 10 times and I changed my mind but I didn’t guess it at all! Was a great plot twist and this is the second book I’ve loved from Sally and am on to the next one. I highly recommend!!
