Publisher's Summary

For the last 20 years, Melinda Gates has been on a mission. Her goal, as cochair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been to find solutions for people with the most urgent needs, wherever they live. Throughout this journey, one thing has become increasingly clear to her: If you want to lift a society up, invest in women.

In this candid and inspiring audiobook, Gates traces her awakening to the link between women's empowerment and the health of societies. She shows some of the tremendous opportunities that exist right now to 'turbo-charge' change. And she provides simple and effective ways each one of us can make a difference.

A personal statement of passionate conviction, this book tells of Gates' journey from a partner working behind the scenes to one of the world's foremost advocates for women, driven by the belief that no one should be excluded, all lives have equal value, and gender equity is the lever that lifts everything.

I felt more worthy because I had read it

This is a powerful book because it does two things, it makes one aware of the plight of women in theirs world countries but it also inspires hope in all of us in the way they strategically band together to provide opportunities for the next generation. I also thought the way the Gates foundation operates in these areas is clever, they research what is working and then rally behind it, rather then walk in and espouse their views, they go with whatever works. There were lots of things in the book that also related to Western Marriages and women trying to get ahead in a male dominated workforce.

Philanthropy and feminism

I found it interesting to hear Melinda Gates story as she is often foreshadowed by her husband. If you like philanthropy, feminism and how billionaires are helping those in poverty you'll enjoy this book.
