About this listen

The structures that lie beneath our skin represent a remarkable and beautiful assortment of biological mechanisms that are essential for our lives. However, we often take these structures for granted.

In these fourteen fascinating lectures from Howard University's Professor John K. Young, a basic overview of the human body, its physical features, biological systems, and general functioning will be presented for the benefit of anyone from budding medical students to curious laymen.

In Young's lectures, he shares the knowledge he has gained during his 30-year tenure as a teacher as he leads his audience on an unforgettable journey through the wonders of the human body.

Overall, I was quite impressed. The professor seems a most knowledgeable and likeable man. The only drawbacks were that he assumed a little bit too much knowledge (a glossary in the notes would have helped), and the notes had too few diagrams. When he mentions a part of the body, surely we need, in every case, a diagram to show us where it is. Much of the delivered text is not in the notes. As he uses technical words a lot, this can be an issue. It is a small matter, but he should have an expert check his Latin and Greek, he sometimes makes mistakes in his etymologies, e.g. the Latin for "head" is "caput". The root "kephal-" comes from Greek.

Enlightening, but course notes a let down

Excellent brief overview, very good for someone going into a degree with no background in this area.
