Good start weak finish
I rarely write reviews but this book irritated me. Nothing seemed of any real consequence to Roz. Theft, death, adultery were all treated like it was all in a day's work. Could have been so much better

Disapointed!
Any additional comments?
After Daly other novels 'Keep Your Friends Close' and 'Just What Kind of Mother Are You?', I had high hopes for this one. Sadly, it did not really fulfil the promise. It was quite an interesting tale, but sadly it seemed to run out of steam as it went along.

First class writer
Would you consider the audio edition of The Mistake I Made to be better than the print version?
yes
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mistake I Made?
There were many.
What does Janine Birkett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Excellent reading with "real people" voice. Brought each character alive.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Ross has a kind heart.
Any additional comments?
I love how the book has incorporated characters from two previous books by Paula Daly without them being like a series. Each book stands well alone. The book has just the right humour with a serious side. Totally non depressing too.

Dark goings on in the Lake District
I find Paula Daly a very engaging writer and certainly this story was pretty pacy. Janine Birkett is a great narrator with a broad range of different accents and tones used to suit each character. The only 'voice' which grated slightly on me was the one used for the indecent proposer, Scott.
There was a lot going on in this book - debt, marriage breakdown, fraud, adultery, payment for sex, murder, blackmail, reckless driving to identify but a few and I wondered if there was perhaps a bit too much crammed in, so that some credibility of motive and intent was lost.
As a result of this, the book was slightly spoilt for me by a number of events which didn't quite ring true such as the immediate nature of the 'indecent proposal' and the context of an attack which led to murder which was less than convincing to me. I wondered if the book had been written in a bit of a hurry or even had been Paula's first novel which hadn't quite worked but was brought out off the back of the success of her first two published novels. I thought Paula's first two novels were very good and had been looking forward to this one.
Overall I was still drawn in by the story's pace and the quality of the telling of the story of the everyday events of the characters' lives - this is one of the author's great strengths for me because the nature of that detail in those contexts is so realistic.
Although slightly disappointed with this novel I still look forward to Paula Daly's next book!

Excellent listen
Where does The Mistake I Made rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In my top twenty. The third book by Paula Daley I've listened to and she is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.
What did you like best about this story?
The lead character in the book, narrated in the first person. She's extremely likeable and funny. The story is actually quite serious in its subject matter yet the author has taken a unique approach in writing it in an apparently lighthearted way, which kept me interested and rooting for the protagonist, despite the dubious things she gets up to.
What about Janine Birkett’s performance did you like?
Very nice delivery. Actually manages a child's voice without making me cringe. She comes across perfectly in the lead role, delivering the protagonists sunny disposition in a delightful way.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Meeting Henry and upon hearing about a particular tragedy in his life, the way she handled the situation.
Any additional comments?
Lovely, lovely story. I'll be watching out for more books by this author. She captures modern day life and it's problems, solving situations very satisfactorily and introducing extremely likeable female characters.

Enjoyable story well read
A really good narrator helped this story to work very well. The story is a nice balance of drama mystery and plot. The interjections explaining aspect of the main characters work as a physo worked well for me. I have listened to other Paula Daly books and will look out for more. Very enjoyable And compelling!

Middling
Any additional comments?
The story was kind of slow and obvious. The physiotherapist specialist knowledge was interesting at first but then became overblown padding. I am afraid the reader irritated me - kind of patronising, everything on one level.
