About this listen
The Mercury Man is a linked collection of short stories about coming-of-age on the streets of Brooklyn in the 1950s. In a series of memoir narratives, I give voice to what I've come to embrace as the defining period of my life. These were my formative years, a time when friendships filled in for the broken family of my childhood. Please join me as I revisit the rich texture of an earlier time and place.
Here are my recollections of growing up in a fractured, Italian working-class family. Some of these memories also evoke my time in the army and the year I spent in Vietnam during the early 1960s. Here is what transpired as I passed from being a boy to becoming a man.
