Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Reason for God.

In previous books, respected New York pastor and best-selling author Timothy Keller has looked at such diverse and topical subjects as the existence of God, our need to do justice, the meaning of Jesus' life, and the human temptation to make idols - all through the twin lenses of a biblical framework and an engagement with contemporary culture.

In this new book, coauthored with his wife, Kathy, he turns his attention to that most complex of matters: our need for love and its expression in marriage.

Beginning with the biblical narrative and its pictures of marriage that span the original ideal to the broken to the redemptive, he looks at themes of friendship and commitment; the completion of men and women in each other; singleness, sex and divorce; and ministry and discipleship within the context of marriage. This is a profound and engaging work that will challenge and inspire people in all stages of life - single, newlywed and married.

Superb

Very helpful and encouraging. Tim and Kathy Keller are both superb communicators. Tim Keller is so gifted at communicating big theological truths in a clear, engaging and practical way. I most appreciated Kathy's chapter on headship and submission in marriage. I think it's also a great read for non Christians who want a well articulated Christian view of marriage and relationships.

Only criticism is I wanted more! :)

Exceptional - Especially chapter on selfishness

Gave an articulated expression of what I was feeling and experiencing in my non marital relationship and best of all...a way out of that situation.

Not a great book

For so much length this book offers very little content, the chapters ramble without much direction. I found it hard to take away much practical knowledge or steps to apply to my marriage or the ones I counsel around me.

Very helpful!

Marriage is tricky without some kind of guidance. This book provides an excellent foundational framework with which to think about the marriage relationship as a single, married, or as one who have been married in the past.

Biblical wisdom beautifully expressed

Keller shows the beauty and wisdom of the Bible's teaching on marriage by looking at it through the lens of the gospel. Both spouses get to display a challenging Christ-like feature in marriage for the good of the other. These features can only be expressed if each accepts their God-given role.

His practical insights and exposure of idols cultures have set up cleared away a lot of wrong notions and gave me a way of approaching disagreements that will enrich my marriage.

one of the Best books of Christian Marriage

I thoroughly enjoyed this book
it approached the subject with a sound grasp of biblical detail
also giving a practical view point on things and the analogies used were very effective.
after reading this I feel like I have more clarity and am encouraged to hope for a Christian Marriage one day

Eye-opener

I've been married for more than seventeen years and I had no idea what it was about. It is an expression of divine love.

I read the book three times (I'm a slow learner) and now, listened to it; I highly recommended it.

Lloyd James is an excellent narrator.

Timothy Keller and Kathy Keller make the theme free from confuse or ambiguity.
Even if you're not a Christian, you can benefit from it.
