About this listen
It’s the first week of senior year at Meadowbrook Academy. For Amy and her best friend Sarah, that means late-night parties at the boathouse, bike rides through their sleepy Connecticut town, and the crisp beginning of a New England fall.
Then tragedy strikes: Sarah and her boyfriend are brutally murdered in their dorm room. Now the week Amy has been dreaming about for years has turned into a nightmare, especially when all eyes turn to her as the culprit. She was Sarah’s only roommate, the only other person there when she died—or so she told the police to cover for her own boyfriend’s suspicious whereabouts. And even though they were best friends, with every passing day, Amy begins to learn that Sarah lied about a lot of things.
Liz, editor of the school newspaper and social outcast, is determined to uncover the truth about what happened on campus, in hopes her reporting will land a prestigious scholarship to college. As Liz dives deeper into her investigation, the secrets these murdered seniors never wanted out come to light. The deeper Liz digs, the messier the truth becomes – and with a killer still on campus, she can’t afford to make any mistakes.©2025 Jessica Goodman (P)2025 Listening Library
Critic Reviews
"Buckle up, readers, because this one is going to grab you by the throat. Goodman knows exactly what she's doing, delivering suffocating tension and plenty of shocking reveals. An absolute thrill ride from beginning to end!"—Natalie D. Richards, author of 49 Miles Alone
“Utterly impossible to put down.”—Sloan Harlow, New York Times bestselling author of Everything We Never Said
“Smart and twisty. As much about a devastating murder as it is about friendship, secrets, and loyalty, with a searing reveal that feels both clever and inevitable in the best way.”—Joelle Wellington, author of The Blonde Dies First and Their Vicious Game

Murder Amongst The Student at a Prestigious School
Two young students ( and lovers ) Sara and Ryan are found murdered in a dorm bedroom after having left a party the night before.
Discovered by Amy, Sara’s best friend the very next morning.
The shock that ripples amongst the students body is palpable.
The two young athletes, the young lovers, who the whole school had been witness to their PDA, now lying dead on a blood bed together.
Amy, in shock, is determined to find out who has done this
Especially once she discovers that the murder weapon is one of her culinary boyfriend, Joseph’s pairing knives.
A knife that she had been using just hours before.
With the help of tenacious Journalism student, Liz
They slowly edge their way to the truth, while also discovering new facts about the lives of their murdered friends.
As this was an audible listen, I had to go back and restart this book several times.
This was no fault of the excellent performances, this was due to me falling asleep. 😂
That’s what happens when you listen at night 🤷🏻♀️
However, this story was a little slow in the beginning, but it picks up in a rate of knots towards the end
Told in multiple POV’s between
Amy & Liz, the setting is the prestigious Meadowbrook Academy of the title.
A school that, conveniently, has a few hidden secrets of its own.
In the end, after having suspected all
The introduced characters, we finally find out the reason for the murders and the identity of the killer.
This was an okay story, character drive, ( which I like) and more than a few twists
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
