Publisher's Summary

L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s The Magic of Recluce begins his best-selling fantasy series the Saga of Recluce, which is one of the most popular in contemporary epic fantasy.

Young Lerris yearns to find a place in the world better suited to his skills and temperament. In Recluce, this means taking one of two options: permanent exile from Recluce or the dangergeld, a complex, rule-laden wanderjahr in the lands beyond. Many do not survive.

Lerris chooses dangergeld.

Lerris will need magic in the lands beyond, where the power of the Chaos Wizards reigns unchecked, and he must learn to use his powers in an orderly way before his wanderjahr, or fall prey to Chaos.

Performed by Bradley Smith, Andy Brownstein, Amanda Forstrom, Elizabeth Jernigan, Terence Aselford, Alejandro Ruiz, Christopher Walker, Nick DePinto, Chris Genebach, Michael Glenn, Kimberly Gilbert, Carolyn Kashner, Tara Giordano, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Nora Achrati, Chris Davenport, Scott McCormick, Jonathon Church, Colleen Delany, David Jourdan, Matthew Bassett, Nanette Savard, Richard Rohan, Michael John Casey, Matthew Pauli, Lawrence Redmond, Joe Mallon, Ken Jackson.

A strong finish

This is one of my favorite LE Modessitt Jr books, and easily my favorite of the Recluce series (rivaled only by the Magic Engineer). I was stunned by how good this was -- the voices, sound effects, production values --I'm a little leery of the cost -- 2 credits for the entire novel, but I'm coming to believe it's worth it.
