Publisher's Summary

A remarkable exploration of power, addiction, and love.

The Lure of the Ring compellingly captures the essence of addiction, the seduction of power, and the nature of embodied spiritual transformation. I highly recommend this wise and engaging book.” (Richard Rohr, OFM, founder, Center for Action and Contemplation)

Authors Alan James Strachan, PhD, and Janet Coster, MA, MA, draw upon decades of clinical expertise, a lifetime of spiritual practice and integration, and communication skills finely honed by counseling, teaching, and writing.

Concerned about present-day uses - and abuses - of power?

"The Lure of the Ring eloquently examines the psychology of power, showing how the human psyche can balance power, love, and integrity. A 'must read' as it is so relevant for human beings, individually and collectively at this time in history!” (Angeles Arrien, PhD)

Curious about the intersection of psychology and spirituality?

Drawing upon transpersonal psychology, nondual spirituality, and a psychodynamic understanding of the personality, The Lure uses characters from The Lord of the Rings to illustrate the different stages of emotional and spiritual development.

A fan of The Lord of the Rings?

The Lure of the Ring will take you on a fascinating journey through the hearts and minds of some of Tolkien’s most colorful characters, exploring with depth and insight how they respond to the allure of the One Ring and providing a novel and thought-provoking answer to the most puzzling question in Tolkien lore: “Who is Tom Bombadil?”

Interested in addiction?

The Lure of the Ring offers a clear and compelling description of the psychodynamics of addiction, explaining how it arises from the deepest levels of the personality.

Pursuing personal insight?
