The fifth volume of memoirs from the author who inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small. During his decades spent as a country vet in Yorkshire, James Herriot has seen huge advances in medical science, technological leaps, and a world irrevocably changed by war. Beasts in My Belfry is the wonderfully funny memoir about Gerald Durrell's time at Whipsnade Zoo and his experiences as a young zookeeper. Following the Second World War, Durrell joined Whipsnade Zoo as a junior keeper - an opportunity that fulfilled a lifelong dream. Thanks to Rupert Degas's brilliant voicing, which captures all of Durrell's charm and wit, the listener can enjoy being taken behind the scenes of one of the world's very first zoos. This is a delightful portrait of the animals who lived there and those who looked after them.

Publisher's Summary
The fourth volume of memoirs from the author who inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small.
Finally home from London after his wartime service in the RAF, James Herriot is settling back into life as a country vet. While the world has changed after the war, the blunt Yorkshire clients and menagerie of beasts with weird and wonderful ailments remain the same. But between his young son, Jimmy, trailing him around aping his every move, stubborn farmers refusing to try his 'new-fangled' treatments and a goat that has eaten 293 tomatoes, Darrowby is far from quiet. And with another baby on the way, life is about to get even more chaotic....
Since they were first published, James Herriot's memoirs have sold millions of copies and entranced generations of animal lovers. Charming, funny and touching, The Lord God Made Them All is a heartwarming story of determination, love and companionship from one of Britain's best-loved authors.

Pure James Herriot
I bought this book to help me fall asleep at night, but quickly fell under the spell of James Herriot and started listening to large chuncks of it.
Lots of short stories from when his children were young, covering the dawn of antibiotics.
I found the Russia story fascinating. There was a time before the internet and mobile phones.

Recording choppy, and what’s with the out-of-context startling music selection?!
I usually appreciate audiobooks even with musical interruptions if the story and performance are stellar, but dear dudes at audio renaissance, what’s with the odd music chopping stories midway? Is that your equivalent of commercial breaks?! And sound quality choppy too.

If only there weren't musical interludes
Loved this series when I read it as a kid and when I watched it on BBC and the new adaptation and these audible series makes a welcome accompaniment whilst in the kitchen or at bed time.......cracking narration by Christopher Timothy....... the only screaming travisty is the crash of the instrumental interludes. Like adverts on TV, the volumes seems to rocket, killing the benefits of a sleep timer.
