Surprising

I was genuinely impressed by this book. I am not in a good place physically after having been in good shape in the past, but I had all but resigned myself to just desiring and failing forever. I am currently 45kgs overweight and have a multitude of physical and mental conditions, but after listening to this something woke up. I'm exercising (and have bought Mike's other book "Bigger, Leaner, Stronger") and eating healthier, and have actually heard wisdoms herein which I've either not registered prior or remembered having done so (I like to read and know everything [despite knowing this is not possible, but the endeavour is character-building], so when I hear something I haven't heard, it is genuinely delightful). Finally, Mike's breadth of knowledge for both the content discussed and the context set through historical, philosophical and socio-political content was fantastic - I actually came away from reading/listening to this book feeling more confident in the way forward and more knowledgeable across areas which I hadn't expected to be covered in this book.

One of my most valued purchases for what it is intending to achieve and the unexpected benefits derived from the breadth of content. Thank you for writing it - you have had a large hand in waking me up and returning me from the brink of permanent despondency. I will ensure I tell people and do my part to contribute to your "1 million people helped" goal.

DULL FULL OF QUOTES

Urgh, I’m not a fan, have never picked up any of his “many books” before. Halfway through & if I get another story about how successful he is & has built a multimillion dollar publishing empire....or another historical quote. Dull dull. Nothing motivational in this book. Don’t bother buying. I don’t care about some Emperor from the Ding dynast....who opens EVERY chapter with a bs quote. This is writing-by-numbers. Does not connect with listener. Is actually boring & I don’t care how rich you are, hearing about your success isn’t why I bought this book.

Not so good

If this is your first book ever about motivation, this book is good. If you have read other motivation book, this is nothing but a rejig of well known principles.

Feeling more motivated to get into the work

This book was easy to get through and very motivational. Packed with truth bombs that will snap you out of "waiting for the right time to start" and into the reality that the best time is now. I appreciated the candid message of the author. It was to the point and free of fluff. There are also a tonne of great book recommendations and resources scattered through each chapter so for those wanting to explore any particular topic further - this will give you some great people to keep learning from.

The big takeaway I got was to get out my head where all the excuses and blocks arise and just get on with doing the work with humility - at the level I am at, with the time and energy I have TODAY.

A great book for perfectionism-prone and those who know their excuses are causing self-sabotage!

I would read this again and will recommend. Thanks Michael for sharing your work with the world!

Not just for fitness

Easily related to many aspects of life.
My biggest takeaway: that little voice inside your head telling you to sleep in or eat that burger isn’t on your side, you have to argue with it every day, even the people who make it look effortless have these voices they battle with.

Excellent Motivational Tool

I really enjoyed this book. The book offers smart nonsense advice for conquering your goals, not just your workout ones!

A wealth of knowledge and a large amount of additional resources, challenges, activities and more.

Do yourself a favour and start listening now.

Would not recommend

Really did not enjoy this at all.
He almost talks down to you, with his air of arrogance and everything he has.
Not someone I find motivational at all. His style and delivery is belittling.
I love leadership and motivational books, not just for myself but to give to my teams, would not recommend this to anyone, way better ones out there.

Well written and researched. Great motivational tools.

Thanks Michael for collating such a well researched and written book. It was easy to listen to and understand the fact based motivational tools and techniques.

While the content is focused on workout motivation, I believe the tools and techniques can be applied across broader spectrums.

The bonus materials provide a succinct overview of the exercises discussed in the book and really help to kick start applying the techniques.

Definitely worth your time.

This is a comprehensive book which illuminates the importance of understanding the process of motivation and how to achieve your objectives. So pleased that I found this as I very recently swapped HIT after one year for weight training. The detailed subject matter was excellent & author delivers on a very interesting narrative reading it himself & evident that he closely connected to the material. Just finished TLS so it was also for me a good consolidation of topics I had already been introduced to. The book finished too quickly but there is a lot of content to digest & looking forward to further listenings to take some notes. Overall I enjoyed it immensely. Anyone on a fitness journey or not would really benefit from the information in this book. Well referenced for further reading & it doesn’t disappoint.

Unmotivational sound skipping

I would give a better review if it weren't for all the glitches and skipping! Hard to find motivation when you have no idea what the narrator is saying!
