Publisher's Summary

A shocking disappearance. A village full of secrets.

Ten years ago, a boy named Samuel Murray went missing from the quiet village of Buckthorpe and was never seen again.

Rosie Sharpe cried over her missing friend for weeks after. But her little sister, Heather, knows that Rosie’s tears hide the truth. Because the night Samuel was last seen, Heather watched her older sister climbing back through the window of their childhood bedroom. Her jacket torn, her eyes wild, and her body trembling with fear.

Heather never told anyone what she saw, but secrets can’t stay buried forever....

A decade later, Rosie and Heather return to the home they grew up in when their mother falls ill. But when their house is ransacked and they receive a threatening note, it becomes clear that someone in the close-knit village doesn’t want them there.

When Heather finally confronts her sister about what really happened on the dark, rainy night Samuel vanished, Rosie’s version of the truth is more shocking than she could ever have imagined. But can she trust her sister? And who broke into their house that night? As the lies of the past begin to unravel, they have the power to put the lives of both women in terrible danger....

This twist-filled psychological thriller from the million-copy best-selling author of Silent Child will keep you hooked. Perfect for fans of Behind Closed Doors and The Girl on the Train.

couldn't finish

I managed to get to Chapter 25 then just couldn't hack it any more. Writer repeated herself constantly and I don't think the narrator was that great either. Would send it back but for some reason I'm not allowed. Don't really care who the Liar is.

too much internal dialog

will she -won't she. The main characters repetitively have hysterical internal battles trying to sort out their problems. Gets very boring.

Brilliant....Loved it!

Just when I am losing all hope that a decent audio book is going to be released and I'm thinking of cancelling....along comes this.

This is my type of book and I wish there were more like it! gripped me from the start, relatable characters, easy to follow and listen to! some books are over complicated and I end up not having a clue who is who or what's going on but not with this one. I could picture every scene and character like a movie! had me holding my breath in some parts and a few good twists which I did not guess!

I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next!

BRILLIANT!! a BIG well done and Thank you

PLEASE READ - The Reviews are Bulls**T

I was just looking to download my next read and as always I read the reviews.
Liking one of the reviews, I clicked on the person to see what other stuff they listen to.....
I took note of some of the other books they read thinking I may like them and did this again for another reviewer just so that I can look at different books i would not necessary read......

THEY READ THE EXACT SAME BOOKS AS THE OTHER AND WROTE SAME REVIEWS !!!!

Did this again to another random review

AND THEY HAD READ THE SAME BOOKS AND REVIEWED THEM

I did this approx 8 times and each seperate person on different days that had reviewed the book had all read and reviewed the EXACT same books as the other random people. So when it says eg. 521 5* reviews, its bollocks!!

I feel lied to!! This is fake!!

Initially repetitive

Get through the bulky initial chapters where Heather appears fraught and repetitive and the story blossoms.

Boring

I decided to read another book by Sarah A Denzil because I recently finished the first two Isabel Fielding books and they were absolutely amazing.
Sadly this book was really boring and I kept switching off. Also just about all the characters were annoying. The youngest sister was so pathetic, weak and annoying. When a character has no redeeming quality it’s hard to remain invested in the story. I am very disappointed with this story but I’ll try another book by the same author as she is capable of brilliant writing.

Very wordy narrative

Overall the story is good, I have been listening to audio books for a while and with this book, the narrative was very wordy and overly descriptive. It deflected from the story as I found myself fast forwarding to the speech parts to stay on track. Novels that go into so much description fail their audience as it appears you don’t trust the audience to connect dots

My first audio book

This was my first audio book and I really did not enjoy it,when I switched to written word half way through it improved slightly..I felt all the characters were written in juvenile fashion and at time considered it like an Enid Blyton adventure for an 11 year old, far too much details about horses riding and horses, it did improve a little towards the end but all in all I would not recommend .....(and I found the female audible narrator quite irritating with her accent and imitation of the various characters)
