About this listen
The must-listen gothic thriller of 2021.
This is the story of a murderer. A stolen child. Revenge. This is the story of Ted, who lives with his daughter, Lauren, and his cat, Olivia, in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street.
All these things are true. And yet some of them are lies.
You think you know what's inside the last house on Needless Street. You think you've come across this story before. In the dark forest at the end of Needless Street, something lies buried. But it's not what you think....

"I haven't read anything this exciting since Gone Girl." (Stephen King)
"Books like this don't come around too often." (Joanne Harris)
The twists and turns, surprises and shocks were amazing. Just when you think you have it figured out, you really, really don't. The narration is unreal. Characters have their own personalities that are built with each voice. Very easy to find yourself lost in this story and you will have to know how it ends as quickly as possible!
Excellent! What a ride, with so many twists!

BUT credit to Ward for not leaving the ending ambiguous - for taking the two hours it took beyond the first big reveal, to flesh out the "true facts" for us - the alternative narrative. I feel like too many authors leave things open these days and if Ward had chosen to do that and ended the book two hours sooner, that would have been a big cop out. So even though things weren't tied up perfectly and the book overall is too clever by half, I really admire this work. It's dark but courageous and the text has integrity because Ward never drops the ball. If I'd been triggered emotionally to join the characters on their journeys, to empathize and relate and lose myself in their depths, it would have been nearly perfect.
