About this listen

The must-listen gothic thriller of 2021.

This is the story of a murderer. A stolen child. Revenge. This is the story of Ted, who lives with his daughter, Lauren, and his cat, Olivia, in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street.

All these things are true. And yet some of them are lies.

You think you know what's inside the last house on Needless Street. You think you've come across this story before. In the dark forest at the end of Needless Street, something lies buried. But it's not what you think....

Loved this book. One of my favourites recently.
The twists and turns, surprises and shocks were amazing. Just when you think you have it figured out, you really, really don't. The narration is unreal. Characters have their own personalities that are built with each voice. Very easy to find yourself lost in this story and you will have to know how it ends as quickly as possible!

Excellent! What a ride, with so many twists!

I loved the twist. it wasn't something I was expecting! I did find the performance a bit hard to follow, because it's only one person doing all voices though.

Great twist

I really enjoyed this book. Creepy, disturbing, profoundly sad and brilliant! The narrator did a 10/10 job!

wow... haven't come across something like this in a very very long time. went in not knowing anything about this and was blown away by the writing, story, narrator and the twists... if you are interested in a dark psychological story full of sadness and hope then buckle in and enjoy.

Amazing, Disgusting, Heartbreaking

Genuinely unsettling throughout which is what I was looking for. At times the writing felt a bit too ‘artsy’ for me personally but many people said to persevere and I’m glad I did.
There are many misdirects throughout the book which I find to be quite annoying however when the DID element was explained, it made sense.
My biggest take away was that it gave a brilliant insight into living with DID.

This is not a straightforward Horror story. There is horror but also so much more. Told in first person, it clearly relies on an unreliable narrator but you are constantly guessing which of these story-tellers is getting it wrong… or outright lying. There are so many twists but they tie very neatly together.
I found that some parts dragged for me, but that was mainly due to the impatience of wanting more important information to be revealed.
The narrator is fantastic! This book is a series of monologues & the narrator performs with an energy that never lags. His voices are amazing - his range ensures that there is no confusion over who is speaking, which could have easily been a problem. When I first heard one of his female characters I sort of assumed it was a different narrator, then reminded myself it was the same guy being an amazing by voice artist. He makes this the best audio book I’ve ever heard, & convinces me that this is the best way to experience this story.

All Around Fantastic Audio Book

Really enjoyed this. It was really well written. Complex main character kept me guessing the whole way.

Well written and kept me guessing

This book is really quite something special. Just as you think you’ve got it all figured out, and Know Who did what, when and why etc, you find that you’re not even close. There are so many levels to the book and they were all completely unexpected. I don’t know that I’ve felt quite this moved after listening to a title in decades. This book can be very disturbing. Yet at times, it’s bloody hilarious The character, “Olivia“, in particular, had me cracking up on the regular the author did a beautiful job at writing this unusual tale, and the narration was simply brilliant. My advice to anyone would be: buy this title for yourself. You won’t regret it.

Thank you, Catriona Ward. Perfectly brilliant and gripping right to the end.

I still haven’t figured it all out and some was a bit too cryptic for me. I think the author gives readers too much credit and could have been a little clearer when explaining the whole picture towards the end. Or else I could be the only person who didn’t get all of the references.

Dark and challenging but stay with it until the end

A convoluted tale that weaves its story through several narratives, keeping you guessing until the last chapters. Thoroughly enjoyable without being too overblown.

An unexpected gem; twists and turns will keep you listening.
