It brought me to tears, humanity expose’

Truly one of the most moving books I’ve ever read , the ruthlessness of war on family and nations. The endurance of love under trial the exquisite pain of decisions made out of fear and self preservation or that of one’s more vulnerable than oneself. Forgiveness and self-sacrifice. All encompassed in this story, poignant and beautiful.

Another good Ruth Druart book

I really enjoyed this book apart from some over dramatised scenes in the latter chapters. Overall the narration was good although I found Josephine’s voice and dialogue somewhat annoying.
As I have spent a significant part of my life researching WWII and in particular the French resistance, I appreciate that the author chose to write about the women who were shamed and ostracised by their French family and relatives. Although as they said they were often just trying to feed their families. Please keep writing this genre Ruth.
