Publisher's Summary

I'll tell you something, something important. Love is a decision. Not a feeling. That's what you young people don't realise. That's why you're always off divorcing each other. No offence, dear.

So decrees the formidable Connie Thrum of Scribbly Gum Island. She is the chief decision-maker of a rather unconventional family and her word is law. It's been over 70 years since Connie and her sister Rose visited their neighbours and found the kettle boiling and a baby waking for her feed, but no sign of her parents. The 'Munro Baby Mystery' still hasn't been solved and tourists can visit the abandoned home, exactly as it was found in 1932.

But now Connie has passed away and the island residents ponder her legacy. Sophie Honeywell is looking down the barrel of her 40th birthday and still hoping for that fairytale ending. Her beautiful new friend Grace, the Munro Baby's grand daughter, can't tell anyone what she hopes for. It would be too shocking.

Meanwhile, a frumpy housewife makes a pact with a stranger, an old lady starts making her own decisions and a family secret finally explodes on an extraordinary night of mulled wine, fire-eating, and face-painting - The Last Anniversary.

"A stunner... Moriarty's prose turns from funny through poignant to frightening in an artful snap." ( Publishers Weekly)

not Moriatys best

this book is not as compelling as Moriarty's other books. I haven't finished listening to it. The narrator is fabulous.

Good story

Good story but wish Liane will use a different narrator, instead of Caroline Lee all the time.

Love this combo

It's always a pleasure to read Liane Moriarty books and I love the way Caroline Lee reads them. I have read all Liane Moriarty's books and am just waiting for the release of a new one.

Novel is enjoyable

Fun and entertaining plot with well developed characters. However over acted by narrator. Enjoyed writing but performance was over bearing.

Loved it

Thoroughly enjoyed this book but didn’t like the Australian narrators voice. Loved the characters & it had a great ending too.

Lianne Moriarty has done it again!

Caroline is once again superb quality narrating another of Australian author Lianne Moriarty's books. the last anniversary has you cheering on a seemingly perfect, yet humanly flawed Sophie. Dynamic female characters with some insight into the few male characters present too. exciting mystery and ongoing tension which though not entirely pleasant was thrilling to see how it all unfolded.

Gotta love a ‘secrets until the last page’ type of book

Liane has a very good way of describing people and their internal thought processes and struggles. Certain if they were real people, they would get a diagnosis of neurodivergence. Had to try hard to ignore the use of the ‘r’ word sprinkled here and there, even if its intent was to show how cruel society can be.
