About this listen

The Kaiju Preservation Society is John Scalzi's first stand-alone adventure since the conclusion of his New York Times best-selling Interdependency trilogy.

When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on.

What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, massive dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world. They're the universe's largest and most dangerous panda, and they're in trouble.

It's not just the Kaiju Preservation Society who's found their way to the alternate world. Others have, too. And their carelessness could cause millions back on our Earth to die.

Look, if you can detach from the horrific structure of the dialogue when it comes to the absolute abuse of the word "said", and the fact the entire group of characters appears to consistently be cracking low-bar jokes like late teens, what you'll find is a really fun and enjoyable easy listen. It's by no means a hard-core sci-fi read (listen) but it's fun, and Will Wheaton's narration is refreshing and intoxicating, if not a little over-zealous in parts.

I loved it, the reviewer said

First let me say I like both John Scalzi Books and Will Wheaton as a Narrator. However, Will was not right for this book in my opinion. I'm not sure if I am influenced by his work on Ready Player 1 and 2 but I felt his interpretation had all characters too young for their perceived age. I would have likened his rendition as depicting the main characters as adolescents as opposed to mid to late twenty.
The story however was very enjoyable.

Nice fun story wrong narrator.

I adorecWill Wheaton but he way over did this one. Everyone sounded like they were on uppers. The story was a good one but took way too long to get going and the climax was very average and uncomplicated . My favourite was the interdependency series. This seemed like a try hard .

Just an ordinary one from scalzi and Wheaton

The author managed to create a decent story that flows well and is easy to follow. However, the story is easily forgettable and doesn’t add anything new to the sci-fi genre. While the book would make a great movie, due to the scope of the world created & the simple flow of the plot, it is not a book I would recommend. Overall it is predictable & bordering on boring. If all you want is a book that will kill a few hours and you don’t want to dedicate much mind power to what you’re listening to, then this is the book for you.

Meh…. It’s ok

Fun little getaway with a small basis on recent events. Good return to form for Scalzi after the clunker that was the collapsing empire trilogy.

Fun, not too serious distraction
