About this listen

In nineteenth century Tsarist Russia an orphaned child born of Jewish and Cossack blood grows up in a land of wealthy aristocrats, struggling peasants, and growing discontent.Sent to an elite military academy at the tender age of four, Sergei Ivanov (Socrates) comes of age training to protect a way of life he doesn't understand. When a sudden death forces Sergei to flee, he escapes into the wilderness.

From the heights of love to the depths of despair, from the threat of a mortal enemy to the search for a child he has never met, Sergei Ivanov's odyssey unlocks hidden wisdom at the heart of life. He could never have imagined that from the moment of his birth he was destined to become the peaceful warrior who would change the lives of millions worldwide. The odyssey that unfolds is not about the revolutions of history, but about the revolution in one man's heart. A stirring story emerges as Sergei encounters mentors and masters who reveal secrets about the arts of war and, ultimately, the path to peace.

very powerful hero's journey tale. so much struggle an pain, then eventually some form of peace... probably would call it a peace with God or oneself in align with the story told.

Such an amazing story that had me hooked from a few chapters in to the very end. I wanted more and more. I've actually listened to this book several times now and was as captivated the second time as the first. The story intertwines drama and subtle spiritual lessons, without any preachiness or pushing of a particular belief. it is the prequel to Way of the Peaceful Warrior and I easily prefer this book by a mile. The voice of the reader does the book great justice and don't be put off by the intermission music which is a little old fashion.
highly recommend!!

As a huge fan of the peaceful warrior series, The Journey of Socrates caught me off guard being a very different; and much darker style of writing by Dan Millman.

That said the story was incredible and the final part spoken by Dan Millman that ties he’s and Socrates journey together is absolutely jaw dropping.

If you’ve read the first three in the series… this is an absolute must!

Absolutely mind blowing
