Story
Most people don't realize how much unresolved emotional pain they carry around. They don't know why they always feel depressed, anxious, victimized, or disappointed. They wonder why they keep making the same self-sabotaging impulsive decisions. These patterns often stem from their lost inner child, which carries a false narrative that has been on repeat since childhood.

Story
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Story
But It’s Your Family is a remarkable account of what it means to cut ties to toxic family abuse and thrive in the aftermath. Loving someone doesn’t always mean having a relationship with them, just like forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation. Reconciling, in many cases, only sets people up for more abuse. A significant part of healing comes with accepting that this is a part of life; there are some relationships that are so poisonous that they destroy one’s ability to be healthy and function best.

Publisher's Summary
Like Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross' groundbreaking On Death and Dying, Susan Anderson's book clearly defines the five phases of a different kind of grieving - grieving over a lost relationship. An experienced professional who has specialized in helping people with loss, heartbreak, and abandonment for more than two decades, Anderson gives this subject the serious attention it deserves. The Journey from Abandonment to Healing is designed to help all victims of emotional breakups - whether they are suffering from a recent loss or a lingering wound from the past; whether they are caught up in patterns that sabotage their own relationships or they are in a relationship where they no longer feel loved. From the first stunning blow to starting over, this book provides a complete program for abandonment recovery.

Resonant
I’ve never gone through such a long book so quickly. Lots of food for thought, the juxtaposition of personal stories and scientific research really made a great balance of content. Not everything resonated but the parts that did felt intensely relevant. This book is an excellent resource and I would definitely recommend it to those ready and willing to read it and utilise the tools provided.

Very helpful
This book helped me understand myself so much. The past wounds, the triggers that have reopened those wounds, the mistakes I’ve made in the past, etc. The exercises have been designed to really dig deep to help heal, and I now feel so much more equipped to let go and focus on a better future. The content of this book is amazing, once you get used to (or can overlook) the narrators voice/tone.

A good book ruined by a terrible voice
This book would have been so helpful to me but I can't stand the voice over artist. Its a really wrong choice for this type of book. She has a voice suited to an infomercial, not a book that must sound, genuine, sincere and intimate. Really bad choice, casting agent.

FIND A BETTER BOOK!
My initial impression of this book was that the author has hints of resentment, projecting blame onto others rather than owning up to their behavior.
The exercises are pathological! They encourage the problem rather than focusing on the positive outcome.
There is no personal empowerment or authentic self-healing focused content here. There is a lot of professional jargon and statistics etc but the author focuses on her brand for EVERYTHING as if it is the only way or some kind of manual unique to her. It comes across as very superficial / fake and insincere.
If you want to justify why your stuck, and stay stuck read this.
Otherwise find a book focused on heart-centered therapy.
