Clare Bowditch has always had a knack for telling stories. Through her music and performing, this beloved Australian artist has touched hundreds of thousands of lives. But what of the stories she used to tell herself? That 'real life' begins only once you're thin or beautiful, that good things happen only to other people. Your Own Kind of Girl reveals a childhood punctuated by grief, anxiety and compulsion and tells how these forces shaped Clare's life for better and for worse. This is a heartbreaking, wise and at times playful memoir.

A striking and surprising debut novel from an exhilarating new voice, Such a Fun Age is a big-hearted story about race and privilege, set around a young black babysitter, her well-intentioned employer and a surprising connection between them that threatens to undo them both. When Emira is apprehended at a supermarket for ‘kidnapping’ the white child she’s actually babysitting, it sets off an explosive chain of events. Her employer Alix, a feminist blogger with a ‘personal brand’ and the best of intentions, resolves to make things right.

It happened the day of the Moon Festival. It could have been left behind, they all could have moved on with their lives. But secrets have a habit of rising to the surface, especially in small towns. Two couples, four ironclad friendships, the perfect coastal holiday town. With salt-stung houses perched like lifeguards overlooking the shore, Lago Point is the scene of postcards, not crime scenes. Wife and mother Abbi, town cop Blake, schoolteacher Hannah and local doctor Will are caught in their own tangled webs of deceit.

When Rebecca Weller’s pounding, dehydrated head woke her at 3:00 am, yet again, she stared at the ceiling, wondering why the hell she kept doing this to herself. At 39 years of age - and a health coach, no less - she knew better than to down several bottles of wine per week. Her increasingly dysfunctional relationship with alcohol had to stop, but after decades of social drinking, she was terrified of what that might mean. How could she live a joyful existence, without alcohol? How would she relax, socialize, or celebrate - without wine?

A fun listen
This was an enjoyable story that was perfect as background while cooking and commuting.
I've always enjoyed Nikki's writing as she has a way of getting to the heart of poignant issues (Bride Stripped Bare anyone?). I also like to support Aussie authors, especially those who try something new like an audio drama.

So true!
The Australian outback road trip feels a bit like Priscilla Queen of The Desert (but with 50yo women). The cast was really solid and the chemistry between the voice actors was great. The conversations were shockingly blunt at times but also made me laugh a bunch.
Some of the negative things these women experience is very familiar, so I'm glad someone is calling them out.

Different.......
Never have the words "This audiobook contains mature themes, and listener discretion is advised." ever been more true. This was like an Australian Sex and the City. They talked about anything and everything. I would love to listen to this again just to see how many times the F bomb is dropped.
This was different. It's like we were hiding in the closet listening in on someone's life. The kissing sounds were just a wee bit over the top. Let's not do that the next time we record one of these books. 😁
This is a hard review to write. i didn't really care for this book(?) at all at first. There just wasn't any substance to it. But then when they are all in the desert, it started getting interesting. I had to see how things turned out. I ended up thinking it was good. It just wasn't mind blowing.
I do recommend it though for a quick entertaining listen. I listened through Audible Escape.
Narrators: they all were great. Perfect for their own roles.

Not for Your Average Reader!
This book was theatre! Disclaimer, I’m an American who loves Australian television/movies , I love theatre and I also love when my audio book is narrated by multiple people. I was expecting a frothy romp with maybe some poignant moments, but this book was windy like a river and took us into soul survival mode. This book may not be for the average reader who may proclaim “I couldn’t even get through the first chapter..” but, if you’ve travelled the world a bit, don’t mind an accent that isn’t yours and crave an adventure that starts with a toe dip and ends with that clutch of fingertips on the mountain.. this book is the surprise for you.

Invisible women's society
I very much enjoyed this performance which was more of a pod cast than a book. I related to so much in this story and I sure other women of a certain age will as well. Initially because of the way imthe story is performed I had a little trouble following it. I am so happy that I stuck with it; I was not disappointed and I could have continued listening...perhaps to a sequel?

Took a while to get into this, but worth it
I had a hard time with this book, because there were numerous protagonists, and it was hard to keep them straight. The similarity of some of the female voices added to this frustration. I nearly gave up, but must say that the characters were so real and likable that I persisted, and was rewarded in the end. I liked all the flaws and imperfections, and that these did not detract from the characters' mutual appreciation in the end.

Australian accents, sounds like a movie, BORING
I was bored by this book. Didn't even finish it. There were too many "fluffy" sections that didn't seem to go along with the plot. Even though it seemed like a good idea to have different voices for the different characters, it fell flat because it wasn't entertaining. The timeframe of 6 hours is wayyyyy too long, and they could easily remove multiple parts to minimize what doesn't fit. Example - the entire part about shopping for vintage clothes and running into an old high school non-friend was totally useless. Not to mention the parts where they stopped on the road and did nothing. Honestly not worth the listen. Also the Australian slang was lost on me at times since I'm American and I had to use context clues to figure out what they were saying.
