A fun listen

This was an enjoyable story that was perfect as background while cooking and commuting.
I've always enjoyed Nikki's writing as she has a way of getting to the heart of poignant issues (Bride Stripped Bare anyone?). I also like to support Aussie authors, especially those who try something new like an audio drama.

Incredibly real & intensely addictive

Nikki Gemmell you have done it again...you successfully hijacked my life cause I couldn’t put down your story!
I loved the characters, their beautiful bond of lifelong friendship, their everyday issues, fears & struggles shared in such a heartwarming & hilarious way.
Women in their 40’s will nod with a knowing smile as they journey with these delightful chicks from a life suffocated by routine & responsibility to one filled w laughter & sparkle.

So true!

The Australian outback road trip feels a bit like Priscilla Queen of The Desert (but with 50yo women). The cast was really solid and the chemistry between the voice actors was great. The conversations were shockingly blunt at times but also made me laugh a bunch.

Some of the negative things these women experience is very familiar, so I'm glad someone is calling them out.

Do not waste your money

This book is pricilla for menopausal women and makes women seem like whingy women that hate their life. Beyond disappointed. Could not make it past chapter 4.

Exhausting listen and cliched characters, themes

Having enjoyed many other titles by Nikki Gemmell I had higher expectations than this.
Overall exhausting and cliched.

Awful

Couldn't even listen to a full chapter. Just grated. The too intense narrative. Not my thing

Different.......

Never have the words "This audiobook contains mature themes, and listener discretion is advised." ever been more true. This was like an Australian Sex and the City. They talked about anything and everything. I would love to listen to this again just to see how many times the F bomb is dropped.
This was different. It's like we were hiding in the closet listening in on someone's life. The kissing sounds were just a wee bit over the top. Let's not do that the next time we record one of these books. 😁
This is a hard review to write. i didn't really care for this book(?) at all at first. There just wasn't any substance to it. But then when they are all in the desert, it started getting interesting. I had to see how things turned out. I ended up thinking it was good. It just wasn't mind blowing.
I do recommend it though for a quick entertaining listen. I listened through Audible Escape.

Narrators: they all were great. Perfect for their own roles.

Invisible women's society

I very much enjoyed this performance which was more of a pod cast than a book. I related to so much in this story and I sure other women of a certain age will as well. Initially because of the way imthe story is performed I had a little trouble following it. I am so happy that I stuck with it; I was not disappointed and I could have continued listening...perhaps to a sequel?

Spoke to me

The story really spoke to me. My kids are almost grown and I am in the throes of menopause. This book had me laughing out loud, almost crying, and completely understanding. I highly recommend this to all middle aged moms.

Took a while to get into this, but worth it

I had a hard time with this book, because there were numerous protagonists, and it was hard to keep them straight. The similarity of some of the female voices added to this frustration. I nearly gave up, but must say that the characters were so real and likable that I persisted, and was rewarded in the end. I liked all the flaws and imperfections, and that these did not detract from the characters' mutual appreciation in the end.

Australian accents, sounds like a movie, BORING

I was bored by this book. Didn't even finish it. There were too many "fluffy" sections that didn't seem to go along with the plot. Even though it seemed like a good idea to have different voices for the different characters, it fell flat because it wasn't entertaining. The timeframe of 6 hours is wayyyyy too long, and they could easily remove multiple parts to minimize what doesn't fit. Example - the entire part about shopping for vintage clothes and running into an old high school non-friend was totally useless. Not to mention the parts where they stopped on the road and did nothing. Honestly not worth the listen. Also the Australian slang was lost on me at times since I'm American and I had to use context clues to figure out what they were saying.

Painful to try and listen to

Incredibly painful to listen to. The counter is a superficial childish and make no sense. Unfortunately, the loud shrieking music that accompanies the readings does not help it along at all. I couldn’t get through it.

DNF

I’m sorry to say I couldn’t finish this audiobook. Too many narrators. It felt like I was listening to the television and I quickly lost interest.

Awful. Too loud, busy & plain distracting.

Awful. Too loud, busy & plain distracting. Couldn't even make through the first chapter. Perhaps try fewer narrators next time
