Publisher's Summary

The secret to the success or failure of any business boils down to its culture.

From disengaged employees to underserved customers, business failures invariably stem from a culture problem. In The Insider’s Guide to Culture Change, acclaimed culture transformation expert and global executive Siobhan McHale shares her proven four-step process to demystifying culture transformation and starting down the path to positive change.

Many leaders and managers struggle to get a handle on exactly what culture is and how pervasive its impact is throughout an organization. Some try to change the culture by publishing a statement of core values but soon find that, aside from some short-term lip service, no meaningful change happens. Others try to unify the culture around a set of shared goals that satisfy shareholders but find their efforts backfire as stressed employees throw their hands up because "leadership just doesn’t get it." Others implement expensive new IT systems to try to bring about change, only to find that employees find "workarounds" and soon go back to their old ways.

Culture transformation expert Siobhan McHale defines culture simply: "It’s how things work around here."

The Insider’s Guide to Culture Change walks listeners through McHale’s four-step process to culture transformation, including how to:

  • Understand what "corporate culture" really is and how it impacts every aspect of the way your organization operates
  • Analyze where your culture is broken or not adding maximum value
  • Unlock the power of reframing roles within your company, to empower and engage your employees
  • Utilize proven methods and tools to break through deeply embedded patterns and change your company mind-set
  • Keep the momentum going by consolidating gains and maintaining your foot on the change accelerator

With The Insider’s Guide to Culture Change, watch your employees go from followers to change leaders who drive an agile culture that constantly outperforms.

Culture is a very critical but a complex topic.
The biggest challenge in this field to understand how the change really happening in real life, and even if it's possible.
I love this book because it shares real cases through very practical and valid framework.
If you are a business leader, culture consultant, HR professional or anyone interested in human behavior, this will be a great read.

A must read for Change professionals.

As a change professional who could walk you through the change process and their models, this book was like sending me to a refresher course. I could not put it down. The case studies that are referenced throughout was presented more from a storyteller approach. She masterfully walk us through the door of the engagement/leadership meetings etc. We all talk of the Big C, but this books gives you a very good understanding of culture and the approach used in understanding culture.

I followed up with her for an in depth interview of my CEO Series show and she gave the guest so many takeaways and the feed back was phenomenal. I even got a request from a conference producer who hear her on the show and wanted her contact for a speaking opportunity.

My advice: BUY THE BOOK...you will not be disappointed.

Bloody brilliant

The Insider’s Guide is such a practical book. It’s been a while since having so many eureka moments but with culture being such an esoteric concept it’s easy to finish the book with more questions than answers. This is the perfect example of how “how to” books should be written. Loved it.

A fantastic dive into corporate culture change

If you have a passion or even just an interest in culture change then I would highly recommend this book. It made for a great listen which was easy to dip in and out of and actually hard to turn off at times. There are some great real-world examples of corporate culture change. Siobhan is clearly an expert in this field and I will be looking to implement many learnings from her. I would encourage others to do the same as Siobhan has a unique perspective on culture change as a result of her ''insider'' role and experiences. I'll be sure to recommend this book to my colleagues who have a similar interest in this area.
