Publisher's Summary

Written with the verve of such works as The Big Short, The History of the Future, and The Spider Network, here is the fascinating, true story of the rise of Ethereum, the second-biggest digital asset in the world, the growth of cryptocurrency, and the future of the internet as we know it.

Everyone has heard of Bitcoin, but few know about the second largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, which has been heralded as the "next internet".

The story of Ethereum begins with Vitalik Buterin, a supremely gifted 19-year-old autodidact who saw the promise of blockchain when the technology was in its earliest stages. He convinced a crack group of coders to join him in his quest to make a super-charged, global computer.

The Infinite Machine introduces Vitalik’s ingenious idea and unfolds Ethereum’s chaotic beginnings. It then explores the brilliant innovation and reckless greed the platform - an infinitely adaptable foundation for experimentation and new applications - has unleashed and the consequences that resulted as the frenzy surrounding it grew: increased regulatory scrutiny, incipient Wall Street interest, and the founding team’s effort to get the Ethereum platform to scale so it can eventually be accessible to the masses.

Financial journalist and cryptocurrency expert Camila Russo details the wild and often hapless adventures of a team of hippy-anarchists, reluctantly led by an ambivalent visionary, and lays out how this new foundation for the internet will spur both transformation and fraud - turning some into millionaires and others into felons - and revolutionize our ideas about money.

Camila was the right person at exactly the right time to capture, preserve and present this life changing information

The TrUe vision that V.B. has is actively changing the world as we speak. And...For a much better place! Sure,, $$$ Will always be $$$, and that means it can be used for good or bad. But the current structure only allows very limited numbers of people to cause great good with their $$$ if they should choose to do so, but now, almost ANYone can be a part of a something that is actively doing Enormous good with real money... from ALL over the world. I am very thankful for the author and the amazing, dedicated work she has put in to sharing this story with the world, and furthermore, in such a timely fashion! I can tell you that I am dropping everything I am doing and I will look for ways to provide value to this new eth computer V.B.

Good overview

As someone who's been there through all of this, I could relate to it all and had a hard time not feeling nostalgic or almost tearing up at some of the flashbacks the book took me through. The narrator is okay but has some strange pronunciations (ConensSYS, e-doubleu-a-es-em for eWASM, Is.tan.bul. for Istanbul) and sometimes sounds robotic, but generally very good. I wish this book had been published 6 months later so it could have documented what DeFi had become in the meanwhile, and also the launch of Eth2 phase 0, but maybe a second edition will catch up. All in all highly recommended historical overview for anyone who wants to know what this Ethereum stuff is all about.

Fantastic document of Ethereum’s histori

A must-listen for anyone with even a casual interest in this cutting edge technology and the exceptional people behind it. Digestible and non-jargonny. The people that made Ethereum are just incredible.

A very well written story of the ETHEREUM

Incredibly insighfull story of Ethereum and it's community, the decentralized movement and $crypto euphoria '17. You won't find a better description of the DAO hack. A good book to refresh the memory, for Bitcoin maxis, (no)coiners, noobs, researchers, investors #ETH + #ETC=❤ A female voice of the narrator is a bonus for sure!
