Story
A young woman is hiding out in a sleepy North Queensland tourist town, trying to stay under the radar, when she stumbles across a dangerous drug cartel. Anyone else might back away shaking their head, pretend they hadn't seen anything, keep quiet, even though people are getting hurt. But Maggie is no ordinary girl. She's got skills, as well as plenty of secrets to keep, burdens to carry - and anger to burn.

Story
It all begins on a Monday, when four people board an elevator in a Manhattan office tower. Each presses a button for their floor, but the elevator proceeds, nonstop, to the top. Once there, it stops for a few seconds, and then plummets. Right to the bottom of the shaft. It appears to be a horrific, random tragedy. But then, on Tuesday, it happens again, in a different skyscraper. And when Wednesday brings yet another high-rise catastrophe, one of the most vertical cities in the world - and the nation’s capital of media, finance and entertainment - is plunged into chaos.

Story
The small town of Nannine lies in the harsh red interior of New South Wales. Once a thriving outback centre, years of punishing drought have whittled it down to no more than a couple of pubs and a police station. And its one sinister claim to fame: the still-unsolved disappearance of Evelyn McCreery 19 years ago from the bedroom she shared with her twin sister. Mina McCreery's life has been defined by the intense and ongoing public interest in her sister's case. Now an anxious and reclusive adult, Mina lives alone on her family's sunbaked destocked sheep farm.

Horrible fake French accent, could not get on with
- By Mihaela Zaharia on 25-07-2021
Publisher's Summary
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide—an electrifying, heartpounding, truly unpausable thriller—a best-selling debut from talented newcomer, Gabriel Bergmoser.
"A truly terrifying, breathlessly exciting novel. It gut punches you in the first few pages and doesn't let you recover until the final, thrilling climax. An extraordinary book." (M. W. Craven)
"An original and high-octane read, it makes Deliverance look like Picnic at Hanging Rock." (The Times/Sunday Times Crime Club)
Frank is a service station owner on a little-used highway who just wants a quiet life. His granddaughter has been sent to stay with him to fix her attitude, but they don't talk a lot.
When a badly injured young woman arrives at Frank's service station with several cars in pursuit, Frank and a handful of unsuspecting customers are thrust into a life-or-death standoff.
But who are this group of men and women who will go to any lengths for revenge? And what do they want? Other than no survivors?
A ferociously fast-paced, filmic, visceral, tense, and utterly electric novel, unlike anything you've heard before. Set on a lonely, deserted highway, deep in the Australian badlands, The Hunted is white-knuckle suspense matched to the fast-paced adrenaline of a Jack Reacher novel and the creeping menace of Wake in Fright. This is unmissable listening.
"This slice of outback noir is...at once exhilarating, gleefully vicious and totally, race-to-the-finish-line unputdownable." (Observer)
"An audacious walk on the wildest side of outback noir...a vivid thriller." (Sydney Morning Herald)
"A perfectly paced, thrilling read with an unrelenting sense of dread and menace...building suspense at every turn of the page. Crime and thriller readers will love this savage Rottweiler of a novel that will clamp its jaws around their throat and shake them to the end." (Bookseller+Publisher)
"Tough, violent, suspenseful and peopled with great characters,The Hunted could well be the Australian thriller of the year. This is Jack Reacher for adults." (Canberra Weekly)

Thrilling book with great narration!!
Hunted is defintely worth the listen!! The book has many interesting intertwined plots that come together in an explosive ending!!! Each character in this book has depth and had me intrigued the whole time. The author has also used the Australian aesthetic to create an eerie context in which the story can unfold. This book will give you shivers!!

Don’t bother wasting your time
The narration is very poor and the story is a combination of wolf creek and Deliverance with a touch of the Peter Falconio story thrown in .it just seems to try too hard to sensationalise and the story is tedious

Too contrived.
Ok so I tried to like this book but it was just too contrived and unbelievable. The author tried to put depth in to the characters by giving us a tiny glimpse into their backgrounds but it just fell flat. And guns run out of ammo, and major injuries like the main characters suffered... yes just not believable.

Australian Deliverance
This book made my skin crawl. It captured my attention very quickly and kept it throughout the entire book. The narration was excellent with very convincing inflections in the dialogue of all characters. The only criticism I have is the lack of explanation around the reason for Maggie going off the beaten track. It felt like an afterthought. Otherwise, a genuinely menacing story.

So glad I ignored negative reviews!
Tense, interesting, fast paced story with intertwining stories and some gutsy characters. Loved the grittiness of the Australian landscape and I thought the narrator was great! There was a fair bit of violence but I felt it was fitting to the storyline and I am not easily freaked out by that. I've preordered the next one in the series!
