Publisher's Summary

Three complete full length novels in one well-priced package!

Twisted by black magic and driven by soul-crushing loss, Lowin Fenly, a young scribe turned knight, struggles to hold on to his humanity as he battles to rescue that which he values most in the world. Along the way he will be forced to make friends of his enemies and enemies of his friends. He will grow from a boy no one has heard of into a man destined to leave the land forever changed, but how will he be remembered? Will he be Sir Fenly, hero of the people, or will he be Lowin the Dread, a monster to terrify children?

The Hungering Saga is a sweeping story that begins in familiar fantasy territory and quickly twists many of the genre staples back upon themselves.

A terrible performance highlighting awful writing

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Better writing, better performance and a more vigorous editor.
I really tried with this audio book. This came after a string of seriously amazing reads/listens and I thought I was being overly critical at first, but it just got worse. I've given up half way through because listening to it was making me angry and frustrated. I have no idea how this got a 4 star rating on audible...

What didn’t you like about Paul J McSorley’s performance?

If you want to listen to a 37 hour asthma attack, look no further! This performance made me really appreciate breathing.

Sublime

I have read many reviews for these books and the overarching theme was fantastic story but poor execution in the sense of editing and diction. I must say this is a heap of pretentious rubbish! As I listened to this book my mind ceased to hear the words, instead, I saw them. I often become lost in the majesty of Pfaff's world and became infatuated with the journey of the characters. There is a maturity in the content of this book that draws you in, providing a raw and visceral sense to the text which is an excellent exploration of the human condition. I would often be caught up in moral musings as I listened, not always agreeing with the moral position taken by the author. Having moments such as this with a text are rare, and are a testament to the author's ability to not only caress your mind with the fantastical but also to invigorate its core.

Paul J McSorley narration was a bit confronting at first as I struggled to related to his selected voice for a key character. However, this character does change very early in the first book, so was not a burden for long. My final view of McSorely's narration is a positive one as it neither improves or reduces the text itself; achieving little in the narration is a positive as many narrators are utterly hopeless.

I wholehearted recommend this book to those who think they will just read one chapter more before bed... then realizing it is 3am. A sublime book of many ideas and emotions wrapped is an excellent fantasy world.

Cannot bear to listen to this any longer

Although the story is original and has potential, the narrator has totally ruined it, absolutely dreadful

Narration unlistenable

I don’t know what the story is like because the narration was so bad. I tried to persist but the intonation and emphasis in each sentence was grating. Disappointed because I was looking forward to the story.

Painful

Look, sorry but I couldn’t finish it. Simplistic, unrealistic writing and unappealing narration, a good author shouldn’t need to explain what and how the characters feel - the reader should live it.

sub par

the book has a good story but the writing is pretentious dog crap. The country bumpkin American southerner accent of the performer is also terrible. the names for some of the characters is also sub par and pretentious eg. there is a character called "Whisper of the Mist" and the order is called "The knights of Ethan". the story has some large holes in it too and the characters don't talk like real people and interact with each other. the story has potential but due the the massive holes in the writing and performance I found it hard to listen to and I kept getting angry.

enjoyable

I really enjoyed the story. Interesting story of power and the struggle of dealing with ultimate power and how someone deals with it. I like the character building of the main. supporting characters not fleshed out enough .... the last book seems a little rushed and the ending left me wanting so much more ......in saying that I enjoyed the storyline and build up. Great work !
