solid guide

I highly recommend this book to all who want to know about how the rivalry between England and France developed and how the rivalry led to war that made it not just a hundred year war, but a war that lasted well over 400 years.

fascinating

The story of this war is made fascinating and, at timese, inspiring by its characters. There is a young prince, dressed all in black, leading his father's army to victory; here are boy kings and fierce queens, prisoners who believe in honor, hailstorms that stop entire campaigns, and a wonderful story of a young peasant girl who changed the course of history

excellent work

The war marked both the height of chivalry and its subsequent decline, as well as the development of strong national identities in both countries.

Terrible

This should have been an interesting story, but the writing is so bad (the narration isn't much better) that It's impossible. How did this mess even get published??!!

successful guide

This is the kind of history book I love. Super detailed, tons of character and setting to bring it to life, and true to the facts. I felt like I learned more reading this book than I did in a lot of the history classes that I paid good money for over the years. Honestly, this book rocks. And I believe I got it for free on Reddit, so that makes it sooooo much better.

delicious guide

This is an enlightening look at a truly troubled/extended period of European history.
Crazy times - thousands of people suffered and died purely because lords and royalty wanted to expand the land (and taxes) they controlled - at the ultimate expense of the average inhabitants.

satisfied

The Hundred Years War was a tangle of people and countries hating each other with the zeal of an 80's soap opera! Thanks to this book, I understand it much more.

Good book

Wonderful history book with detailed descriptions of character. But it is less acerbic than one might think considering the author's usual thoughts about humanity.

I did liked the book

I didn't quite like the beginning because it went pretty slow. If I could change anything in the book it would be adding more excitement in the starting part, because I'm an author also and I know what most of the people want.

Great history book

This book does an outstanding job of explaining the issues, fights, and personalities that developed this time in history. A great start to those who know nothing about the Hundred Years War. Maybe those who want a real in-depth study of the war should look elsewhere.

Good info

Good info on how armies changed, how kings funded them and the overall conception of the war on nobility and commoners. Good spread of family trees to understand the claims.

A Comprehensive Tool

A Captivating Guide of what must have been one of the most dangerous periods of European history. Battle after battle, attack after the attack, French and British hit each other mercilessly for the power over the resources of France, the whole period under a code of conduct that today we have great trouble in understanding.

AWESOME CONTENT!!

Amazingly perfect, the two warring societies we all related French, so it is more of a civil war than a fight among two nation-states. If the English and French frontiers and cultures had blurred boundaries before, after the lines of separation were very bright and solid.

Wonderful

Multi-generational war based on greed, ambition, pride. Also a transition from ancient warfare to more modern methods, like ranged combat with longbows and gunpowder.

FIVE STARS

The Hundred Years War is one of my beloved periods of European history. This book is collected with knowledge which packed lots of gaps in my experience of the period.
