Publisher's Summary

Bent on taking over the earth, the deadly Thone have planted a monstrous device on our planet's surface. Trapped inside is a group of scientists, spies, and innocent bystanders. Part maze, part torture chamber, part laboratory, the house of doors is a test. If its captives survive, the Thone will withdraw from earth and leave us in peace.

Survival seems impossible. At every turn of the labyrinth, the prisoners encounter alien worlds and terrifying monsters ripped from their own subconscious fears. Only by defeating the demons within can these men and women escape the house of doors and save the earth.

A wonderful tale of horrors from space and the mind

This was a favorite from my teen years when it originally came out. Read that paperback till it fell apart. Here you have a mysterious castle that appeared in Scotland overnight. Investigated by top teams of scientists from all
Over the world including paranormal experts and one fellow who has a special affinity for machines. This castle is an alien testing facility that will force those it captures into facing terrors unimaginable to see if they are worthy. But the one pulling the strings has his own agenda. A really great story and the narration is spot on for lumley’s writing. Truly love this story and recommend it to any and all. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Awful Narration

This is a great story with horrible narration and acoustics. It sounds like it was recorded on tape while inside a cave. I was very disappointed because it is an excellent story that is ruined.

Horrible sounding narration.

The story line is good and I would love ANY one else narrating this book. For one thing it sounded like it was recorded from a tape cassette. Also I could never tell who was speaking. Great story line though.

Excellent Read

This book DOES start out rather slow. However once it picks up, it's non-stop and difficult to put down. By far one of the best books I've read. I'm pretty stoked they brought it to audible!
