After a night of drunken debauchery following the defeat of the academy's headmistress, Lucas awakens to trouble on all fronts. The steady balance of power within the Imperium has been shaken by his presence, and the resulting aftermath is a town full of heavily armed and well-staffed enemies that seek Lucas' death. Lucas must not only survive their assault but also manage his own slowly crumbling internal affairs when his party begins to fracture. Dungeon Lord : Ancient Tradition
- By John on 21-01-2020
Publisher's Summary
After conquering all of Hesse, creating a devilish new dungeon, and establishing himself as the villain that everyone loves to hate, Lucas decides to continue his quest to create new content by taking over as a dungeon master on the mainland.
Unlike the dominant force on the island he left behind, however, the once-mighty Imperium only controls a single capital city in a rapidly shrinking territory, leaving a group of scheming nobles to bicker among themselves and fight over scraps of land. Seen as an upstart and rabble-rouser, Lucas is instantly shunned and must struggle to find somewhere to begin building his new base. Now, after declaring himself the enemy of every man in the city, and with every player in the region hunting his head to claim the bounty placed there, Lucas has to decide which allies he can trust as he fights to stay alive long enough to establish a new lair and gain a foothold in a hostile land.
Introducing new monsters, a curious new group member, and flashy new spells, this gamelit litRPG adventure follows Lucas as he writes his own story as the greatest villain the game world has ever known.

A bit too meta and wish fulfillmenty.
The book doesn't really offer anything substantive, for a book that's supposed about the dichotomy between being a hero and a villian, It turned into the MC vs everyone else. all of his enemies are a joke yet he gets rewarded like the victories are worth something. The MC has cheat stats, owns part of the game company, is rich, is hypocritical and basically gets everything he wants when he wants it from the system. I wouldn't be surprised if the system was his mother or something.
How am I supposed to care about the story like this? The death penalty has the opposite effect as now we know he WON'T die unless he wants to reroll his class advancement. The nail on the head lilith character is just extra.
overall it was a bit disappointing as the only thing I felt interested in was the evolution of monsters. yet that was just glossed over as another power increase - which this book has alot of.

First Book was great, this one, eh...
So after the first book I immediately jumped into this one hoping it would continue along the same lines. Unfortunately, as other readers have mentioned, this book seems to depart from what made the first book great and almost feels like a side story meant to (hopefully) bridge the first and third books and (again hopefully) get some of the annoying but typical, for this genre, tropes out of the authors system.
The performance was, as always, excellent. Sound Booth never fails to please.
SLIGHT SPOILERS
As for my major complaints
There was very little dungeon building this time around, which is unfortunate as that's one of the main reasons I picked up the first book. And while I get the whole new land, harder to acquire territory, etc. I can only hope this book is just a set up for a major return to this aspect of the story.
Also, the harem issue. I honestly despise this. It takes so much away from the story and makes the whole thing feel like a high school wet dream. The dynamic between the MC and his sister in law (re)turned confidant, or hell, our Fox mercenary who starts with just money money money and by the end of this book seems to be struggling to hold that as her sole form of loyalty, and even Lilith's crazy (I honestly can't think of a better way to put that with her) would have made for such a better focus than the turn toward the villain and his harem. It's so played out at this point that I've outright stopped buying books from favored authors if this is part of one of their series. I get it, it's a fun fantasy, but the genre is already flooded with this topic already.
All in all, I'll pick up the next book in the hopes that there is a return to the setup of the first book. Part of me is hoping that the harem thing becomes more of a way to drive home the "lost and broken man" issue from the first book and that there will be a turn around because of this.

LitRPG without shallow characters...
I loved the first book, especially the production done by SBT. It reminds me of listening to some of those old radio programs from back in the day before people were spoiled/force fed what to feel by tv and movies, instead of having to use their imaginations.
This book was as expertly produced as the first. SBT knocks it out of the park. The sound effects add to the experience and the cast does an excellent job of picking up where they left off.
Dean’s characters are brought to life not only by the cast, but by his writing skills. I’ve always thought Dean was well written, and from what I’ve seen from each of his novels, he continues to perfect his craft.
Dean does one thing better than a lot of other LitRPG authors out there, and that is to create characters with depth. You actually get meaningful conversation between characters instead of talking as a means to an end.
Great book, great production, can’t wait for more!

ummm what happened
jeff hays and rest of the voice cast did amazing job.......
that being said the writer forgot what made the first book good it Tossed it aside and it’s feels like the author wrote a wish fulfillment fantasy.
There is no dungeon building which was a shame that was really a good part for the first one.
The npcs now offer to rape women players. That just took me out of the book and got me thinking about the whole lot of lawsuits and ethics of have a VRMMO game have that....like if a teen walked in to that inn would it happen?
The MC now pulls a 180 form the Previous book he was smart had plans for the goals and good friends to can’t decide who he can trust and or bang. the mood swings...? There was a vaguely a goal of wanting to make the game more popular again who would want game where the new boss steals your girl and is broken to fight there no story behind him.
The only other male character on the team is just there to be hit by the girls and belittle to the ground to make the MC look better.
The vast majority of the book take place in a day so no world building very little character building and no time to experience the world form the previous book. all the MC dose is run from one disaster to the next killing everyone form teachers to students to the random innkeeper to all while being a Mediocre villain who steals all the women .... and the damndest thing they go with him and the fact that’s he’s the new boss in town and both and NPCs and players join him. A villain like this would probably make the game crash and burn harder not bring in more fan. Think of the lich king form WoW and then think of this guy who is a lot like little finger form G.O.T. one steals your girl the other takes the world to war......... one of those you need a army to take on.....
for the next book i hope the sister in-laws manager is put down In between books because he was even that good character in the first book to bring back and now that the main characters banging maids it would just look tacky to have two maid bangers
not sure if i’ll buy the next one

Meh..
It was alright, not as good as the first book, and the first book wasn't great. It turns into a softcore harem book by the end. Not really my cup of tea. The harem aspect feels like a piece from another puzzle that is jammed into a space that it doesn't fit. Highly unlikely I will try book 3.

Not as good as the first but still good read
the overall book was very good though there were some things that I just couldn't stand. I finished the book though to me the first was great and this was good. this is mostly to deal with a few characters and the ending. I believe there was a lot of good in Lucas in the first dragged down by his late wife death. there was a character in this book that was a psychopathic serial killer and Lucas was siding with her after a day then most of his companions that spent a substantial time with. It was almost all the way through the book before he was siding with his original companions.
Tilith is a piece of work and author gets an A grade for making me hate her. Though why Lucas listened to her is anyone's guess. Almost all the way through the book I was wondering why Bonnie should put up with Lucas and all his shit. Lucas was a lot more whiny in this episode and yes he was a lot more evil then the first book. I have very little problems with the story arc itself because it flows good and its complete. The way it ended, I was like well... wish fulfillment huh. It actually made me lose motivation to read the next novel.
