Publisher's Summary

Young love is all too fleeting, as Harold Jonquil painfully discovered years ago when Sarah Sarvol, the niece of a neighboring landowner, captured his heart. After an idyllic few weeks in the throes of blossoming love, reality intervened. They could have no future. Following their disastrous parting, Harold attempted to push aside thoughts of love and regret, but Sarah has never left his heart. Now, years later, he has achieved his lifelong aspiration of becoming the local vicar. However, the role proves more difficult than he imagined. He feels hollow and uninspired - until the most important person in his past returns, challenging him as no one ever has.

When Sarah’s ailing uncle summons her back to the family estate in England, there is only one person from her past she is reluctant to see again: Harold Jonquil, the only man who has ever claimed her heart. But when she comes face-to-face with her former beau, she hardly recognizes the aloof and dull man before her. She is determined to help Harold rediscover the passion he once felt toward his chosen profession. Soon, despite their exasperation with each other, they cannot deny the stirring of feelings long buried - but is it too late for second chances?

Missing one thing

I enjoyed the narration and the plot of this book, but I found it fascinating that the author could write a story about a vicar with doubts and never mention a prayer or a conversation with God. How does a man of faith not cry out to God when feeling lost. Instead he talked to his mother, house keeper, a pub full of guys, and even his dead father. But, alas, not God. Perhaps that was Harry's real problem.

MY TAKE
I love the Jonquils and have since the first time I met them. Those brothers can be such dunderheads, but when something comes up they are all there to support each other. I loved learning about Harry, especially how different his outside persona was compared to what was really going on. I LOVED Sarah. She was perfect for him, loving and kind, the perfect wife for a vicar.

There are lots of scenes with siblings and spouses. It was wonderful to get to see them again and to see that real life doesn't stop just because you marry your life. Life is hard but that doesn't mean it's not still wonderful. Sometimes it's wonderful because of those hard moments.

Lovely, lovely addition to the series. Can't wait to see Charlie's tale.

Not near as good as the others

It lacked a lot of story development. There wasn’t much chemistry between two main characters.

Wonderful.

Beautiful story, exceptional narration. I loved it! The narrator' voice, volume levels, expression is awesome, truly the best I've heard, and I've listened to hundreds of audio books.
This is as close to perfect as it gets. I've listened to all the books about the Jonquil brothers. This is my favorite series, bar none.

Lived it!

It was fun getting to know Harry. He always seemed to be in the background of the other stories. His childhood Sweetheart Sarah, is such a darling girl. so full of happiness even when things are bad. It was good to see them have their own happy ending.

Uplifting story, cheesey dialogue

This story took longer to get into than other of Eden's books. The main characters are very cheesey. But at the same time, they seem very relatable and are likable. I did enjoy the story and was curious how everything would end, was glad I listened even if it wasn't my absolute favorite.

Not as good as I'd hoped

I'm really beginning to hate these historical romances with wimpy characters! I like intelligent and spunky characters who actually work towards what they want! As a previous review stated (a whole year ago between reviews, hmmm - that should tell you something!) he is a VICAR! Why not talk to GOD??? He does talk with all sorts of other friends, but never to God! Why is he a Vicar?? It seems in England being a "man of God" is more of a profession than a calling. Anyone can be a Vicar, without knowing or wanting to know anything about God. I was disappointed in this author's story this time. I've read many books by Sarah M. Eden and most of them are good, but this one was an aberration! I love good stories in historical romances (not sex) and I'm finding a repeat of the same stories told in various manors. I hope this isn't a permanent trend!

Loved it. Can not wait for the next book.

I wonder if the next book will be about Sarah's bother Scott. That would be good.
