Publisher's Summary
Puffin presents the audiobook edition of The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert.
Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice's life on the road, always a step ahead of the strange bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice's grandmother, the reclusive author of a book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate - the Hazel Wood - Alice learns how bad her luck can really get.
Her mother is stolen away - by a figure who claims to come from the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother's stories are set. Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: 'Stay away from the Hazel Wood'. To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother's tales began....

Potential
not a bad story.. good ending thought felt like it was being made up on the spot.. like there could have been more planning in the initial story line prior to actually writing it.
I did like it.. there way just a bit of "waffling"

great listen..edge of seat stuff
Ii found the narrator hard to cope with because she sounded like someone im not too fond of...but just goes to show what an intriguing story this waa because, despite that, i couldn't put it down (stop listening) A non-stop unfolding descriptive feast of the darkness of the faerie world

couldn't finish it
I couldn't finish this story that was so choc full of similes that I end up grinding my teeth.
Very slow beginning with many, many flashbacks.
The MC was annoying as hell and the only thing I end up carrying on for was the actual Tales of the hinterland stories which were really good. The narrator was awesome!!

If you are in to fairy tales
enjoyed it. a little long winded in some places. it seems to be stuck somewhere between an adult and a teen book. teen theme but more adult language
