About this listen

It's 1946. The war is over, and Juliet Ashton has writer's block. But when she receives a letter from Dawsey Adams of Guernsey – a total stranger living halfway across the Channel, who has come across her name written in a second hand book – she enters into a correspondence with him and in time with all the members of the extraordinary Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

Through their letters, the society tell Juliet about life on the island, their love of books – and the long shadow cast by their time living under German occupation. Drawn into their irresistible world, Juliet sets sail for the island, changing her life forever.

Initially I didn't think I would like the "letters" format and I didn't, but suddenly that disappeared and you are totally into the characters and what is happening to them. Has certainly made me interested in the history of this island. An excellent book.

read this once and didn't like it at all.
Had another go and absolutely loved it. in between I watched the very much adulterated movie, beyond awful and nothing like the book. I loved this book and highly recommend this beautiful and sometimes sad book.

I loved this audiobook, laughing out loud in some parts, and gaping in shock in others, both because of the beautiful writing and the perfect performance. The one thing I could suggest is that because the main story ends so abruptly, it could be helpful to also include narration of the 'Afterword' from the print edition. This is a thoroughly entertaining listen, and I didn't want it to end!

Entertaining book, exquisitely performed
