Publisher's Summary
It's 1946. The war is over, and Juliet Ashton has writer's block. But when she receives a letter from Dawsey Adams of Guernsey – a total stranger living halfway across the Channel, who has come across her name written in a second hand book – she enters into a correspondence with him and in time with all the members of the extraordinary Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Through their letters, the society tell Juliet about life on the island, their love of books – and the long shadow cast by their time living under German occupation. Drawn into their irresistible world, Juliet sets sail for the island, changing her life forever.

Sad when it ended
Initially I didn't think I would like the "letters" format and I didn't, but suddenly that disappeared and you are totally into the characters and what is happening to them. Has certainly made me interested in the history of this island. An excellent book.

2nd read
read this once and didn't like it at all.
Had another go and absolutely loved it. in between I watched the very much adulterated movie, beyond awful and nothing like the book. I loved this book and highly recommend this beautiful and sometimes sad book.

Decent and enjoyable, well narrated.
Mostly enjoyable, gets pat and a bit irritating towards the end as the story is tied up neatly and tidily. Could have lost most of the romantic drama and swapped it for more of the scenery. Was hard to keep track of the London characters as they were fairly indistinguishable, and not as interesting as the islanders. The history is the main highlight of the book.

Very enjoyable book to listen to.
Very enjoyable story to listen to. Mainly due to the wonderful voices of Taylor Owynns. She was amazing portraying the various people in the book and has a beautiful voice to listen to.
I also enjoyed learning about the history of the Island.

Enchanting
A beautifully narrated book. The story was engaging and I loved it. It certainly provided insight into the history of the British Isles during the war. I loved the salt of the Earth characters. A real gem. Sorry that it ended.

Lovely old-fashioned Romance
Brilliantly narrated. This is a well written novel about post WW2 in England & Guernsey which I'll definitely re-read & recommend.

Brilliantly Narrated
So well read that I’d occasionally forget that all the characters, young/old, female/male were voices by the one person.
