Perhaps no figure in biblical scholarship has been the subject of more controversy and debate than Mary Magdalene. Although she is discussed in the gospels of Philip, Thomas, Peter, and Bartholomew in the collection of writings known as the Gnostic gospels that were rejected by the early Christian church, there is no better insight into this mysterious and influential woman than Mary's own gospel.

having left the church 20 years ago as a result of women's oppression, I found this incredibly enlightening. I do think it would be helpful to read the text alongside the audio version as it is very dense... and wordy... despite this I am excited by its contents and will continue to research this topic...

I quit listening with 3 hours to go. I wanted a book on the gospel but found a well-meaning commentary that did not properly distinguish itself from the gospel.

I’m sure the overall body works is fantastic and accurate to a degree. my own “personal” issue with this was there was way too much disconnect, they would say one or two lines at most from the actual text. then they would heavily laden it with their personal opinions. When the text was actually read again there was so much of a disconnect. I couldn’t enjoy it in its pure form, without opinions. I bought the book because I wanted to hear the message unladen and the direct transmission not the interpretations of another trying to influencing the reader of “intellectual” way of thinking .
