Publisher's Summary

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family.

He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from 40 years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.

But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

"Intelligent, complex, with a gripping plot and deeply intriguing characters. The author's early death is a great loss." (Philip Pullman)

"What a cracking novel! I haven't read such a stunning thriller debut for years. Brilliantly written and totally gripping." (Minette Walters)

Best narrating

This is the only book from audible I've ever really been able to focus on every word with ease and interest without zoning out at all. Saul reichlin has done a fantastic job with reading this book. Another narrator I'd listened to on audible for this book was so awful I had to revert backward every so often to try and figure out what was said.

Also a great story told in a simple not convoluted way, but also one of the most intensely interesting.

A Light Thriller

I thought that this was an extremely well written book. The introduction and networking of the characters was executed concisely.
I enjoyed the first part of the story but I did feel that I predicted the ending too quickly for the story to play out. It could had a little more suspense, but that’s me. The ending is also good and I like that it doesn’t stop there.
Overall I highly recommend it.

Remarkable characters

If a story could ever truely be said to be a perfect combination of character and plot this is it.

18 hrs I won't get back.

I just do not see what all the fuss is about.
An exercise in tedium.

What's all the fuss about?

This was a long, and mostly tedious book. So many mundane, unnecessary details with very few points of excitement. And I found one of the main characters completely unlikeable.
If you must read it, I recommend trying the abridged version.

Saul Reichlin is the Millennium perfect narrator!

Reg Keeland's translation from the Swedish of Stieg Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy" in conjunction with Saul Reichlin's narration, make for a high standard experience for the listener. Indeed, Reichlin's clean articulation of names and his carefully modulated pacing of the story, fit very well with the exigencies of Larsson's use of language, and in how has drawn the world of the Trilogy. Full marks. Antonin M
