About this listen

The Girl from the Dockland’s Café is June Tate's latest compelling saga. Perfect for fans of Rosie Goodwin and Kitty Neale.

Southampton, 1912.

Jessie is made from tough stuff. At just 19, after the death of her father, she opted not to follow her mother back to Ireland, preferring instead to take charge of her own destiny. When Jessie marries an Irishman and takes over the running of the cafe she works in, it seems as though all the pieces are coming together. But when destiny and a pushy local businessman have other ideas, everything she has worked for is taken away, bit by bit. Will she find the strength to keep fighting for the life she wants in the face of personal loss, gang bosses and embezzlement?

Well read story with realistic characters. The reader did a great job of all the voices.

Lovely story of strength and love.

I’ve given this book 5 stars as I found it to be an all round enjoyable read that kept my interest. The characters were likeable and narration was excellent. The book also gave an insight into living conditions in the period, eg an indoor bathroom with running water and toilet was a luxury. I always enjoy Aiofe McMahon’s narration and she did a great job distinguishing between characters.

Enjoyable read

Not what I was expecting, another view of life. The life of a courageous woman’s strength of character brought me laughter, tears & a sense of pride for Jessie & woman kind. Strength & unwavering determination is well bound within this novel.

A new author to add to my favorites.

The narration is good but the storyline is so boring! I kept going waiting for something but nope, it just didn’t go anywhere.

So boring
