Story
The girl with the dragon tattoo is not given to forgiveness. Lisbeth Salander has been forged by a brutal childhood and horrific abuse. And repeated attempts on her life. The ink embedded in her skin is a constant reminder of her pledge to fight against the injustice she finds on every side. Confinement to the secure unit of a women's prison is intended as a punishment. Instead, Lisbeth finds herself in relative safety. Flodberga is a failing prison, effectively controlled by the inmates, and for a computer hacker of her exceptional gifts there are no boundaries.

Story
When Stieg Larsson died, the author of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had been working on a true mystery that out-twisted his Millennium novels: the assassination on February 28, 1986, of Olof Palme, the Swedish prime minister. It was the first time in history that a head of state had been murdered without a clue who’d done it - and on a Stockholm street at point-blank range. Internationally known for his fictional far-right villains, Larsson was well acquainted with their real-life counterparts and documented extremist activities throughout the world.

Futile with shallow plot
It's my second Lisbet Salander book by David Lagenkrantz and I struggled with it even more than with the previous chapter. The story is so stretched that one loses the interest, there's no suspense at all and the whole book is just badly written.

Sadly disappointing
This is the sixth book in the Millenium series. Lisbeth prepares for the final battle of justice for her past wrongdoings, aided by Mikael.
I followed the series with much hope as I loved the story, characters and plot development, but have been sadly disappointed. The first was epic, a reread in my books, the second and third were ok, but the last three, including this one, were not great. I listened to them all to complete the series but I would, unfortunately, not recommend the final three.

Weakest of the bunch but still...
I was hesitant to read this book, afraid that it'll ruin my favorite series. It wasn't that bad but it definitely is the weakest. There are some plot holes and logical errors and moments where the characters actions are inconsistent. But there are some good bits and as a lover of the series I found a way to enjoy it.

Poor
I agree with the listener who said that Lagercrantz's stories get worse as the series goes on, this is definitely the worst, very poor by comparison to Larson's originals and poor compared to his first effort, which was reasonable. This one really is all over the place though, not carefully crafted at all. If the publisher's really want to milk the Dragon Tatoo series even more, I suggest they ask Jo Nesbo to write the next one for them, even if it's under a pseudonym!

A great read / listen
I think some of the other reviews are way too harsh. I really enjoyed the book and found it to be an engaging, action- packed conclusion to Salander’s story. There are lots of strands to the story that are woven together well. The end is a little far fetched but riveting. I think the author has done an excellent job of not only continuing the millennium series but providing a fitting ending. It’s the kind of book that it’s not worth dissecting the details and being overly critical it’s best to just sit back, immerse yourself in Lisbeth’s world and enjoy it.

Did the author ever read the original books?
Lagercrantz gets worse with each instalment. Writing melodrama instead of a story fails Salander. I thought at first that he had only seen the dramatisation and not read the books, then I thought perhaps he had only read the cliff notes, now I realise he must of only read the synopsis.

Oh Dear!
What a disappointment! I had thought that Lagercrantz had done a reasonable job following up from Steig Larsson, but this book was just awful. The dialogue was so clunky it was cringeworthy, and the action so ridiculous that I laughed out loud. Has Lagercrantz ever seen the aftermath of a motorcycle going through a window? Twice? I pity Saul Reichlin having his name attached to this. Been a member for seven years and this is the first time I will be returning a book.
