Publisher's Summary

An extraordinary true story of resilience, courage, hope and finding lightness after the heaviest of landings.

What if we could figure out a way to see beauty in every part of living—the world, its people and its lessons? To still be able to feel pain and sadness, but see it all as part of this wild ride we call life? We often tell ourselves we'll be grateful when we have that job, or get that car, or that outfit. But what if we could just change our mindsets to one of wonder, of appreciation, of awe in simply being?

For years, Emma Carey was a regular young adult who would wake up and go about their day on autopilot, someone who would look at a sunset and feel unaffected, someone who was living, but not really alive. That is, until something happened that enabled her to really see life for the gift it is. Emma was in a skydiving accident that made her a paraplegic. This book is not just about Emma's fall from the sky and how she learned to walk without ever regaining feeling in her legs but also about the beliefs and ideas that helped her survive. These are the beliefs and ideas that make her the happiest she's ever been.

While Emma did eventually learn how to walk again, her changed mindset is the thing she continues to be proudest of, and most grateful for. Emma's story is one that will capture your heart and heal your mind, as she guides us through what she has learned along the way. With a maturity and evenness beyond her years, as well as a down-to-earth approach to hope and possibility, Emma shows us how to live in the world when what we expected doesn't fit our reality. She shows us how to really look, and see beauty where it is.

Amazing and inspiring story

I work in community care, so I have clients with mental and physical disabilities, including quadriplegics. This book gave me a lot of insights I didnt know - or better think - about, as my clients dont want to talk about it! One is so ashamed she doesn’t even want to go shopping for fear of people staring at her! I wish I could help her see things differently! I tried before, but maybe now I understand her better and can help her more! I will recommend this book to my colleagues whenever I get s chance!

Not enjoyable

I usually am an optimistic type of person but I just couldn’t follow this book along. I wanted to love it but found myself cringing, rolling my eyes and pulling faces soooo much. For a serious story of hardship, the reader sounded so unrealistically optimistic and upbeat it just didn’t sit well with me. It made it difficult to follow along with and not enjoyable at all. Unsure if it’s the book in itself or the narrator. Just too annoyingly optimistic to the point it sounded so far fetched and fake.

A reminder of the joy of life

It was a pleasure to hear Emma's story not only in her own words but in her voice. If you can read or listen to this story and Emma's reminders to appreciate what you already have, then you must.

Profound, insightful and like a big hug for anyone suffering

What a beautiful book, a compelling story and an easy listen. Full of insight, vulnerability and lessons. So many of my own struggles felt validated by Ems words and after listening I think I need to purchase a hard copy to read and highlight to be able to revisit. Perspective changing, eye opening and like a big hug for anyone who has struggled. A big thank you to Emma for shining light in these spaces that exist within the disabled/chronically ill community. A brutally honest and extremely vulnerable sharing of her life. I felt lighter listening to Ems words and I felt seen in so many chapters in this book.

Empathy and Appreciation

Emma shares her experiences with raw humanness and humaneness. One can't help but be moved and learn from it. I honour her experiences and what it would have taken to live them and then subsequently share them. What a life she has lived, like all of us with its ups and downs. She inspired me to check that I'm living the life that is mine and no'-one else's and to seek the light, in life's every day moments.

She also shines a light on the inhumane systemic cruelty of the legal system and within the medical profession, that is blatantly abusive, and that only adds to trauma and needs to change.

Amazing story

What the insurance company put you through is absolutely disgusting. They are so quick to take your money then it is like getting blood out of stone when you have a claim.
Fantastic book.
