Publisher's Summary
An unforgettable tale brimming with suspense, mystery and romance - The Girl Who Dared to Think will thrill fans of The Gender Game, Divergent, and The Hunger Games....
How do you fight an enemy when they're inside your mind?
A gargantuan glass-walled tower looms over a deadly wilderness. They say it's all that's left.
The Tower's survival is humanity's survival, and each must serve it faithfully....
Twenty-year-old Liana Castell must be careful what she thinks. Her life is defined by the number on her wristband - a rating out of 10 awarded based on her usefulness and loyalty to the Tower, and monitored by a device in her skull. A device that reports forbidden thoughts.
Liana is currently a four, the lowest possible acceptable score, and despite her parents' perfect scores of 10, she struggles to increase it. Rebellious ideas come all too easily, and resentfulness seems part of her being. She is an overseer-in-training, but her future will be dark if she cannot raise her worth....
Threes require drug treatment.
Twos are isolated.
Ones disappear.
When Liana's worst nightmare comes to pass and she drops to a three, desperation spurs her down a path few dare to tread. A chance encounter with a cocky young man whose shockingly dissident attitude toward the Tower couldn't possibly have earned him the perfect "10" on his wrist, sets her on a trail to save herself - even at the risk of dropping lower.
Stalking the young man seemed like a simple enough task, but after events take an unexpected twist, Liana finds herself taking a treacherous dive into the darkest depths of the Tower...and the decades' old secrets buried within.
In a society where free thinking can make you a criminal, one girl dares to try....

Loved the series
Loved the gender game series, was keen to see how it was interwoven here. Minus a few comments here and there it's independent.
Sadly, the more I got through the series, the more it began to grate. On book six and I'm almost at the point of wanting to just stop listening. The storyline's become too much of a narrative dialogue. Even in a simple conversation, there's her 'thoughts' in each line, chopping it up to the point it becomes mindnumbing.
There's little room for the imagination to aid the audience. The character, in the first few books, is endearing, likeable, but in the last few that I've read, 5/6 to be specific, was a complete 180 on the personality. So much for the medica doing it for her!!

No words. It's just amazing.
Narration is perfect!! No annoying accents, no voices sound quite the same as others! And the story is so thrilling I'm HOOKED. I listen to books at work, as I work in a recycling plant on a conveyor belt sorting trash for up to 12 hours a day and I had to take a toilet break soon as this book finished just to go and buy the next book. And so far the next one by the way is amazing. Like I'm keen for work tomorrow so i can listen to more! MUSTTT READ/LISTEN! ASAP.

Not a whole story, no ending
So here's the thing.... I liked the story. The narration is ok. I listened to the first three books but none of the books had real endings. They would just end in the middle of some major plot twist and encourage you to get the next book to find out what happens. This is a 7 book series (so far?) and so to get any closure you have to listen to all 7 (or more?) books. That's nearly $100 of audible books and that's outrageous. The story is good but certainly not worth $100 to hear the whole story. They should be combined into an omnibus (or two). I will not be finishing the rest of the series I already spent way too much on this series... I do want to know what happens but not badly enough to spend another $50 on it...

Narrator killed it for me
I was excited to see this after I finished the gender game series, but I was disappointed in the narration of this book. I'm sure Kristen Leigh has her good books; however, this isn't one of them... every sentence is delivered like a news headline. I thought I could deal with it for the sake of the story but couldn't manage even after it started tying in with the Gender Game. I guess I'll be reading this series rather than listening to it.

The narrator sounds special ANGRY
I listened to 1 chapter. I can't listen anymore. The narrator is YELLING. And her male voices are unbearable. Please! Just use your own voice. If youre female just use your female voice. Dont use a deep, manly voice. Its so distracting and irritating. There's no way I could listen to this and relax at night. Not with being hollered at. It might be worth it though to read the book myself. It sounds like it would be interesting.

Too Slow
Interesting story but it took frustratingly long to get going. I came close to returning it.
Too much dwelling in repetitive inner thoughts & doubts. She is supposed to be intelligent yet all too often misses the glaringly obvious.

Great book
I gave 4 stars because the reader was hard to get use to at first. She sounded like she was telling the news and at first it was really annoying but she eventually grew on me and I hope she returns to read the other 3 books in this series. But the book turned out to be awesome! I’ve listened to the gender wars series and was excited to find there was another series about the tower. So get past the first hour or two and you will enjoy this book. Really good book can’t wait until the other 3 books come to audible Hopefully this happens sooner rather then later.

Bemused
The story and performance are pretty good, but I find it hard to get past the fact that the author uses several words incorrectly. In particular, the word “bemused” is used time and time again (it means confused, and the author uses it in place of amused). If read literally, it makes it seem like there are a bunch of clueless characters wandering around

Decent story, but I had trouble getting through it
The narration was awful, in my opinion. It was very mechanical, and while I understand that this is a style that is often intentionally chosen by narrators, her version of it was choppy and hard on the ears. I felt that much of the dialogue was unbelievable and poorly written, but couldn’t assess as to whether it was actually the writing or just the narration. The storyline was decent, and eventually left you wanting more....the key word there being “eventually”. The book dragged on in many places, and at times I found myself fast forwarding through the dialogue because it seemed both pointless and endless. The symbolism was a bit too obvious for me, and the author seemed to just throw it at you over and over again. Finally, I thought the heroine was fairly weak...she is no Katniss. All of that said, it was a decent enough book for me to finish it, and at times engaged me to a point where I sat in my driveway at the end of my commute in order to listen to another few minutes. Still, I don’t think I’ll listen to the next book. However, based on some of the other reviews here, I’m willing to give the author another shot and am going to try Gender Games next.

A fairly good story but poorly written
Overall it is an interesting plot but I was often left frustrated by the author unnecessarily repeating descriptions or having the main protagonist go over the same thoughts again and again. Had I read this book I would have skimmed over the repetition but in audio book format you are made to painfully suffer through it whilst wishing to get back to the action. I also think the author should have kept some information back as nothing really comes as a surprise and I was often left wondering how on earth the protagonist could be so clueless and at times just downright stupid. It then begs the question why her romantic interest is so quick to praise her intelligence when she is very often the cause of the danger they find themselves in! However, if you can get past these gripes, there is a reasonably good story to get behind and your rewarded in the later chapters with the introduction of the fun and endearing character, Tina, who I hope will feature more in the following books in the series.
The narration of this audio book was done very well, keeping a good pace and the different voices for the characters were enjoyable.

Brilliant
Another start to a action based , story. It makes you think, what would you do if your moods or thoughts made your number drop. Where when you reach 3 you need to be worried , because if you reach 1 you could just disappear. Loved listening to this first installment and am deeply disappointed that the next installment is not yet on audible so will have to wait and hope its soon, although the kindle book format is out there now . Bella has done it again , brilliant
