Publisher's Summary

Amanda King and Tess Cuffe are strangers who share the same Georgian house, but their lives couldn't be more different. Amanda seems to have it all, absolute perfection. She projects all the accoutrements of a lady who lunches. Sadly, the reality is a soulless home, an unfaithful husband and a very lonely heart. By comparison, in the basement flat, unwanted tenant Tess has spent a lifetime hiding and shutting her heart to love. It takes a bossy doctor, a handsome gardener, a pushy teenager and an abandoned cat to show these two women that sometimes letting go is the first step to moving forward and new friendships can come from the most unlikely situations.

disappointing read

Predictable, with a lack of strong female characters. I rolled my eyes so many times.

Great book

I was hooked on this book from the very start. Tess and Amanda's stories remind you that you don't necessarily get what you want at the start, but also what goes around comes around. I enjoyed the added depth created by the throwbacks and absolutely love the ending.
Aoife McMahon delivers a brilliant performance once again.

An enjoyable read

This genre is not something that I would normally read, I prefer suspense or thriller style books, but given the overall high ratings I thought that I would give it a go. I was not disappointed.
It took me a bit to get into the book, but I put that down to me not being use to the type of book. Once I really got into it I couldn't stop listening. Loved it!

Fair

It was hard to get into at first, but it did pick up once I was about 1/3rd into it.

Lovely, well written book

I really enjoyed this. I listened to it at every opportunity. It’s a simple, ‘feel good’ tale, but one that is very well written, with engaging, richly drawn characters. The lovely story is enhanced by the, as always, faultless and warm narration by Aoife McMahon.

Great book, great narrator.

Great book to listen to, made all the more interesting due to the brilliant narrator.
The story revolves around the lives of two very different women a generation apart in age and from very different backgrounds, but whose lives are brought together by differing but tragic circumstances.
Well written, well narrated.
A joy to listen to.

Tedious

I listened to this for over an hour (up to chapter 9), but continued to lose track of which character was which, my mind wandering a few times as the storyline was taking way too long to unfold and didn't hold my attention.
Disappointing.
