Publisher's Summary

We all know that perfect parenting does not exist, yet we still struggle with the social expectations that teach us that being imperfect is synonymous with being inadequate. These messages are powerful and we end up spending precious time and energy managing perception and the carefully edited versions of the families we show to the world. On The Gifts of Imperfect Parenting, Dr. Brené Brown invites us on a journey to transform the lives of parents and children alike. Drawing on her 12 years of research on vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame, she presents ten guideposts to creating what she describes as "wholehearted" families where each of us can continually learn and grow as we reach our full potential.

"It's actually our ability to embrace imperfection that will help us teach our children to have the courage to be authentic, the compassion to love themselves and others, and the sense of connection that gives true purpose and meaning to life," states Dr. Brown. The Gifts of Imperfect Parenting is a practical and hopeful program for raising children who know that they are worthy of love, belonging, and joy.

Nice examples but less content

The topics covered very good and in breadth but I was expecting more content. It seemed like it ended very quickly. I expected more research examples from the author from her professional experience but the examples were more centred around her family. In one way, It was authentic and brave to quote from family experience. Well done.

Great reminder of Brene's work

Brene Brown is inspiring to listen to and offers an important perspective on vulnerability and shame in our culture and encourages us to really show up in our lives and help our children do the same to set them on a path towards wholehearted living.

This book is great as a stand alone window into her work or as a reminder of how to incorporate her principals for wholehearted living as they apply to you into your parenting and family culture.

Brene's work reminds us we need to keep on learning, daring, making mistakes and working on ourselves and to let our kids see us as imperfect human beings as we live and learn together.
