Story
I celebrated when vampires were declared extinct. Those beasts had preyed on humanity for millennia, committing senseless, brutal murders. Like the rest of my colleagues at the Occult Bureau, I looked forward to a world where we could all sleep at night - where constant cover-up jobs were no longer required to keep the public calm and unaware. But the end of vampires wasn't the end of our problems. It was only the beginning.

Thoroughly enjoyable series
I previously listened to The Girl Who Dared to Think series by the same author, although I did enjoy that series, there were aspects I found annoying. In the Girl Who Dared to Think every book in the series had repetitive recaps of aspects of the books that had previously been read as if we had dementia, the individual books also felt more like chapters rather than books on there own making the $15 a pop feel all the more expensive. Thankfully none of this occurs in The Gender Game books, it was captivating from the very beginning till the very end without unnecessary recaps to act as filler. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and I highly recommended it to others.

[Series:] Good action - too much cheesy romance
This review applies to the entire series. The action sequences are very well written and interesting, but certain things about the writing became very annoying and hard to tolerate after 4-5 books, and they detracted from the entire experience. Namely, the excessive amount of inner dialogue. This series easily could have fit into 3 or 4 action-packed books if not for the excessive explanations of how people feel and what they think. THE most annoying thing about the books (particularly the last few) is how often Violet or Vego seemingly re-discover or express how much they love each other. Some reviews have compared aspects of this story to a cheesy romance novel, and that is fair. It is cheesy romance intermixed with good action sequences. Also annoying was the author's overuse of terms such as chaste kiss and tisk. That is just bad writing. I stayed with these books to the end because I wanted to see how they turned out, but by the end I was simply ready for it to be over and did not really care what happened to Violet or Vego. This story is not the Hunger Games, and Violet is no Katniss.

Honestly, I hoped for something more...
Well, this book was definitely on a lower level in my expectations. I didn't like it, I'm sorry. This was packed up with wedding cerimonies, some confused action, and wedding ceremonies again. I felt like reading and listening to a traditional fantasy world with some gross genetically modified creatures... and there was no closure in the end. I expected more and maybe something completely different. And I want to mention the real bad sound in most of the Rebecca Soler performance, I'm sorry.

Horrible
I only finished by increasing the narration rate. The entire series had enough plot for maybe one book. This story must have been broken into sections by the author or publisher to increase profits. Do not waste your time or money.

Longer read than needed.
Many words. Too many words about feelings. Entire chapter 23 unneeded. But once it got back to the story, and stayed there, it was alright. Some details were painfully forgotten. An entire palace overrun by Green creatures—unaddressed. A wedding planned and fully executed with full spread and tiered cakes in 2 hours. Without sleep for almost 3 days. Impressive. Or stupid writing. But. Overlooking that, good read. Four days in a cell, without bathrooms. Careless writing. Looking forward to next saga. Perhaps the author just got tired of writing this one.

Left me wanting
The author uses the same phrases repeatedly and for more than one character. Example: “ I let out my breath that I hadn’t even realized I had been holding”
She has multiple characters (Tim, Veego, and Violet) all thinking the same way, as if their personalities were identical. Veego is a Patron male and Tim has been held captive and traumatized in isolation for 8 years. Yet the author has these 2 men being as insightful and as sensitive as women are. She did not change their personalities to reflecy their different genders and experiences.
If you were expecting the writing to be as good as the Hunger Games has been written, you will be disappointed. Her writing is probably good enough for young teenagers, but sorely lacking for the adult reader.

I've read all eight books, well actually listen to them through audibleAnd all I have to say is that they are amazing. I read many many reviews prior to purchasing the books but finally gave them a shot just saying I wanted to see for myself and I couldn't have been happier. there was so many negative reviews originally saying that it was too long or too worried, but the book in my opinion was beautiful the whole entire series the character development the way the world was developed was all spectacular. I would recommend this to anybody
