Story
In Electrify, Saul Griffith lays out a detailed blueprint - optimistic but feasible - for fighting climate change while creating millions of new jobs and a healthier environment. Griffith's plan can be summed up simply: Electrify everything. He explains exactly what it would take to transform our infrastructure, update our grid, and adapt our households to make this possible. Billionaires may contemplate escaping our worn-out planet on a private rocket ship to Mars, but the rest of us, Griffith says, will stay and fight for the future.

They demonstrate we can be breaking together, not apart, in this era of collapse. Jem Bendell argues that reclaiming our freedoms is essential to soften the fall and regenerate the natural world. Escaping the efforts of panicking elites, we can advance an ecolibertarian agenda for both politics and practical action in a broken world.

What does it actually mean to be rational? Not Hollywood-style "rational", where you forsake all human feeling to embrace Cold Hard Logic, but where you make good decisions, even when it's hard; where you reason well, even in the face of massive uncertainty; where you recognize and make full use of your fuzzy intuitions and emotions, rather than trying to discard them. In Rationality: From AI to Zombies, Eliezer Yudkowsky explains the science underlying human irrationality with a mix of fables, argumentative essays, and personal vignettes.

Publisher's Summary
Named a Guardian Best Audiobook of 2020, this optimistic and agenda-setting look at the climate crisis is perfect for listeners of Rutger Bregman and Yuval Noah Harari.
We can survive the climate crisis. This book tells us how.
Practical, optimistic and empowering, The Future We Choose is a book for every generation, for all of us who feel powerless in the face of the climate crisis.
We have two choices for our future, which is still unwritten. It will be shaped by who we choose to be right now. So, how can we change the story of the world?
The Future We Choose is a passionate call to arms from former UN Executive Secretary for Climate Change, Christiana Figueres, and Tom Rivett-Carnac, senior political strategist for the Paris Agreement. We are still able to stave off the worst and manage the long-term effects of climate change, but we have to act now. We know what we need to do, and we have everything we need to do it.
This is the final hour: it can be our finest.
But we must act now.

Everyone needs to listen to this.
I was gifted the book but never made the time to read it. Listening while working was a perfect alternative. I definitely vote for the long-form pod cast so this book was like a special super long pod cast treat 😆

A book we all need to read
Climate anxiety is now a thing many face, adults and children alike, made worse by the narrative that has been perpetuated by those who stand to loose their wealth if humanity throws itself into the challenge of sustainable living. The narrative that says we as individuals are powerless to make any impact, that developing countries aren’t interested in climate change, that big business and politicians should be the ones making changes. Reading this book, The Future We Choose, has changed how I see the challenge before us. The authors first describe two possible futures: one with no change, and one in which we manage to limit warming to 1.5°c. They then look at three mindset changes that are needed so we can get out of our own way and start acting decisively. Finally, the book presents ten concrete actions, realistic, achievable, and based on environmental and behavioural science. So if you feel powerless, worried, anxious, or confused, this book is brilliant. If you’ve already made some changes but want more ideas, or clear, science-based arguments you can use to explain your choices to others, this book provides that too. Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac are both members of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and were instrumental in bringing about the Paris Agreement. Climate Change is a complex and contested problem with the potential to end all life on earth. Scientists say that the window of opportunity in which we can avert the worst outcomes is rapidly closing. We have at most 10 years to be firmly on the path of zero emissions and creating a circular economy using regenerative practices when it comes to managing our resources. I for one think it’s worth the effort and will be buying copies of this book for everyone I know as Christmas gifts!
