About this listen

1950s Liverpool. In the tight-knit community of the Four Streets, two girls are growing up. One is motherless and hated by the cold woman determined to take her dead mother's place. The other is hiding a dreadful secret which she dare not tell to anyone. The people of Four Streets laugh, grieve and hope together. But what can they do when a betrayal at the heart of their world comes to light?

The narrator was so engaging and a few extra chapters to prolong the experience would have been excellent, while it was sad it was a fantastic story

A very well told story about a community and the struggle they face. Wonderful narration. It was very hard to listen to in parts because of the heartbreaking story line but wonderfully written and narrated. I felt as though I was actually there!

Riveting!

So emotional

On the whole a heartfelt story. The characters really came to life. I don't however see the need for such graphic story writing in the sexual abuse scenes... Spoilt an otherwise enjoyable story

Mostly enjoyable
