Publisher's Summary

From the author of the Amazon number-one best-selling novel The Air He Breathes comes the next book in the Elements series.

Complete standalone!

There once was a boy, and I loved him.

Logan Francis Silverstone and I were complete opposites. I danced, and he stood still. He was quiet while I ran my mouth. He struggled to find a smile, and I refused to frown.

The night I saw the darkness that truly lived inside of him, I couldn't look away.

We were broken together yet somehow whole. We were wrong together but always right. We were the stars that burned across the night sky, searching for a wish, praying for better tomorrows.

Until the day I lost him. He threw us away with one hasty decision - a decision that changed us forever.

There once was a boy, and I loved him.

And for a few breaths, a few whispers, a few moments, I think he loved me, too.

Really struggled

The female performance was woeful, especially her portrayal of the male characters. Really ruined the story for me.

LOVED THIS BOOK

This book was dark and sad in some parts but it is wrapped up pretty good. Proof of what true love can be or just really good writing. I loved it.

The Fire Between High and Lo is the second book in the Elements series by Brittainy C. Cherry. I listened to the Audible audiobook told by narrators Graham Halstead and Emily Woo Zeller. I was absolutely captivated by this stunningly beautiful story. I found myself shutting out the outside world and feeling a part of Logan and Alyssa’s story.

The story line is full of love, pain, anger, frustration, passion, sadness, and so much more!

It is perfectly paced and unquestionably one of my favorites!

Very emotional

This audiobook story was about a boy and a girl from different walks of life who fell in love. Because of their differences and a terrible loss, the boy leaves and doesn't return for 5 years. Their relationship is very complex and the story well performed by the narrators. Lovely ending!

5 The Fire Between High & Lo Stars

Brittainy has done it again, I am utterly astonished at how she can make me feel so much for these characters.

Not once did I think I could like a character more, but then she makes you love that character more.

Logan has not had an easy life and his adult one isn't starting of any easier, but I think it was the struggle that really makes him become the MAN he has.

Alyssa, what can I say about her. Ok so I might have a different way of looking at her. The way she meet Logan I didn't think she felt sorry for him in the way omg this guy can’t afford food. Just for the fact that he has to be the one to get the food to provide. I think that is one of the reason they connected, she never felt sorry for him but for his circumstance.

I love how they are totally different but kind of the same and that this friendship grows in to so very much more. I can’t explain how Brittainy can do this, but she makes a great story kinda sorta beautiful.

I very much enjoyed the narrators for this book, the male narrators gritty tones were just how I would picture Logan in my head. Love it.

Very much recommend this book.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

High and Low Rollercoaster

Heartbreaking. Wanted to scream at a certain character about 1 billion times for being the worst human being to exist. Loved this book. The entire element series is amazing. This stand alone story definitely touches on hard issues like drug addiction, child abuse and terminal illness but it is worth it. All the feels. Narration was great even though the female voice got a bit whiny in the dramatic/high tension parts, couldnt tell if I liked that or not, but it added to the anxiety. Beautiful ending

Truly. Madly. Deeply!

This book is both heartbreaking and beautiful, exhausting and hopeful. It details the generational impact of brokenness and how no matter how desperately you want to get away from your past, it keeps pulling you back. Brittainy C. Cherry is amazing and the way she writes about love, lose, restoration and reconciliation is enviable.

This book was impactful.

4.5 stars — So I finished this audiobook almost a month ago, and partially wrote this review and then promptly…forgot about it. So I have no idea what I’m missing. I just know I really enjoyed this book, probably more than I was expecting to. I feel like someone I know said it was their least favourite of the Elements series, so I had lower expectations. But I was sucked in right from the start. These books are truly out of the norm for me, as they deal with characters that are…not always the best. But for some reason I fall in love with them anyways.

Before I go further, lets talk about the narrators: honestly, they were both really good, easy to listen to. I LOVED the way they voiced each other as well, it felt like 4 narrators because their Logan or Alyssa voices were so distinct. However, I found that sometimes their Emily and Kellan voices weren’t distinct enough, so occasionally I had a hard time distinguishing who was talking in the group settings. Otherwise, I would definitely look for more books narrated by these two, they added so much emotion.

As I said above, these books are so fascinating b/c they showcase really messed up people falling in love. And because of things like addiction, there are some very unhealthy moments in their relationships…moments where I wasn’t rooting for the couple, b/c it just wasn’t good for them. But that’s part of the journey. The love was always there, just waiting for them to get to the right place. By the end I WAS rooting for them to succeed, and I was happy with the steps their relationship took.

I was seriously compelled and sucked into the relationship between Logan and Alyssa right from the start. They had AMAZING chemistry with one another, from friendship to more. I FELT their connection down to my bones, and I wanted to know everything. Their interactions often made me smile SO MUCH because they could be so sweet with one another. I think that’s what made the harsh moments so hard.

This book really made me think a lot. Logan did not always behave the best, but I do believe that addiction can really bring out the worst in people. At times, when they were being unhealthy, I wasn’t sure I wanted that kind of romance showcased. But don’t addicts deserve happy endings too? Not all addicts are bad people…addiction doesn’t discriminate. But it’s so HARD to watch someone who is otherwise a great person become so mean and awful.

It was hard to watch the bad decisions, but it did make it that much more satisfying when they started making the right decisions.

Kellan and Emily added an interesting element to the story. I LOVED the way Kellan was there for his brother, and I couldn’t help but wish he could have done more earlier in Logan’s life. I liked that they talked about Kellan and Alyssa enabling Logan a bit. I could see that being common. I hurt for the struggles Kellan and Emily went through, and I worried about them. I loved that they all had dimension, and we got to see their hopes and fears and struggles as well. Made for a richer story.

I will admit I had a harder time understanding Logan’s love for his mother. She was truly horrific to Logan when she was using, and I just felt like we didn’t get to see as many of her redeeming qualities. I was not as forgiving as he was.

That was all I had previously written for this review, so I’ll leave it there. This book was impactful. This series was impactful. I can see it not being for everyone, but I surprised myself with how much I loved it. Definitely recommend.

Brittainy brings depth...

The air he breathes was the first in the 'Elements' series of books and was and OMG book, had me crying and gave me all the feels and was just perfection for me. So this had some living up to do.

I enjoyed the story, the depth and detail and emotion that Brittainy brings to her books is beautiful and I love reading them, did I love this as much as The Air he Breathes? Not as much no, now this is a small bit, but there was a difference..... not enough to take it down any stars as I love her writing too much and there are not enough star increments, no I didn't cry in this one either, reading the reviews where people were crying from the start, I think my heart must have frozen over with the cold, but I got the emotion, I got the feels and that is what I expect and get from Brittainy.

But, I did really enjoy it, this is my third Brittainy book now and I'm about to start my fourth.
