I loved the whole trilogy but this book really gave so much thought to the strengths and weaknesses of our technological lives and what the leftovers would look like in a future fallen world. Detailed characters, unexpected turns and lots of action.

It’s got all the best bits of Tchaikovsky’s “Alien Clay” mixed with Simon Green’s deeply intense surreal character development. But by the end it was just watching things play out predictably and slowly, narrated by a bunch of illiterate teens who despite living in an apocalypse are always trusting and warm of heart.

The grammar was endearing at first, the comparisons to present day xenobiology endearing, but after a year of travelling with a scientist he still can’t stop coming out with “and it’s was as ifs the head of a crafty mud snake done gone did” whatever. He’s a teenager barely, a child, but there’s a huge incongruity between the two MC’s ability to stop talking and thinking like a brain dead 5yo

I only go on about this so much because it was SO so close to being perfect. And could have been.

Perhaps the written book wld be more enjoyable. Still well worth the journey, esp if you’re a YAdult or smoke a lot of weed.

A classic hero's journey that's rich with a cast of remarkably diverse and interesting characters in a terrifying, but not all together impossible to imagine, dystopian future. Thoroughly enjoyed all three books. And the narration just enhanced the overall experience.

what a storyline, what great characters, just a brilliant listen. I haven't enjoyed fiction like this in years. It has all the big themes and all the interest of post apocalyptic imaginings from a brilliant writer. I highly recommend the series.
