I absolutely didn’t want this book to finished. I did have trouble with the different characters, but still thoroughly enjoyed it. Narrator was amazing. 10/10.

Amazing read

While I enjoyed the tale of the beginnings of Ken Folletts huge saga, this one seemed a bit naive and not as well researched or executed as his other 'tomes' in this seemingly never-ending tale of England into the Middle Ages. As with all the previous books, sadly, I found John Lee's narration to be somewhat stilted and his attempts at female representations just not right! A rapid downhill slope to the end of this book left me a little disappointed even though the bad guys were appropriately punished or dead and the good guys to live happily ever after - apparently.
Just a bit Cinderella for me this one.

A good easy listen. Not sure about the female voices being put on by a bloke reading though.

Enjoyed the book and story but unfortunately the delivery was monotone and like a newsreader.

I was disappointed with the previously released ‘A Column of Fire’ as it was too convoluted and the stories seemed to take place outside Kingsbridge. It’s the only one I couldn’t get into. However on the strength of this new release, I may give the previous one another go as I’m so sorry I’ve finished it!

‘The Evening and the Morning’ went so fast, which is a sign that it was a winner. It’s a local story with just the right amount of non-Kingsbridge action, which is what makes this book so wonderful. It was simple to read but looking back there were just enough complexities. The right balance, the right book! Highly recommended.
