About this listen

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard comes a standalone, full-length mafia romance novel.

While visiting family in Italy with my mother, I came face-to-face with Leo Toscano, the head of the Italian mafia and my worst nightmare. Let's get one thing straight: I didn't know the mafia was a thing until the ruthless man threatened to wipe out my family unless I married him. Not having much of a choice, I reluctantly said "I do," and tied myself to the heartless bastard for life.

Turns out he doesn't want anything to do with me, and I quickly learn the definition of loneliness.

But then secrets begin to come to light, and everything I thought I knew about my life turns out to be a lie. Now the big, bad mafia boss is the one begging. How the tables have turned.

Each book in the Mafia Empire series is interconnected, but about a different couple who will all find their HEA. Narrated in duet style.

Very disapointed with this one. I ADORE this series, but The Empress was so short and uneventful. It felt like a novella. I was shocked when it ended, the story felt like it had only just hit the halfway mark.

The horse rescue focus at the end was so random. There was no mention of the FMC liking horses or wanting to do rescue work. Just because the MMC saved her stuffed unicorn from when she was 6 didn't explain anything around this odd story addition.

I loved how it all started, I loved where it was going...but then it just stopped once she realised she was happy with him. Everything suddenly wrapped up with a perfect bow and a random new life purpose.

I enjoyed what story there was, I just expected a whole lot more. I feel like the author resolved the conflict too early and left the story with nowhere else to go.

Narrators were great though and I did love Leo, I just...expected so much more.

Felt more like a novella
