Publisher's Summary

Berlin, 1944. Ariella Bannon is being hunted. Someone is determined to betray her as a Jew, but she has survived against incredible odds, and the end is in sight. She will be reunited with her precious children, no matter what it takes.

Meanwhile, Liesl and Erich have found a home in Ireland, away from the chaos of war-ravaged Europe. As the dark news of what has happened to the Jews filters through, they are torn - love for their mother and their home on one hand, and the profound sense of peace and belonging they have in Ballycreggan, on the other.

Like all the other children who escaped Nazi territory on the Kindertransport, they must wait to hear the fate of their loved ones. For their foster parents Elizabeth and Daniel, their dearest wish, that Ariella would survive the war, is also their deepest fear. Would her return mean the loss of the children they have come to think of as their own?

As the Third Reich crumbles under relentless Allied bombs, Ariella is careful, but Berlin is a very dangerous place to be, and somebody knows she survived. Can she take one last enormous risk to be reunited with Liesl and Erich, or will her betrayer see her finally captured?

The Emerald Horizon is the long-awaited sequel to the best seller The Star and the Shamrock.

Excellent story

This is a great 4 part series - the characters are so warm and real you feel like you really know them. A sometimes heartbreaking story told with such grace and insight and with such wholehearted characters that is it uplifting. Love love love

Delightful listen

The story is well written and easy to become engrossed in. The characters feel like they were real people. The narrator’s accent truly added to the story.

I just can’t give Jean Grainger books less that 5 stars. Any book that can make me cry is some kind of book

I loved her two books about kinder transport and learned so much. She gives some of the best character development and this includes super well know authors. I never got bored and wished it would end just the opposite sad that it had to end. . She is my new favorite historical fiction author. Will read all now. I listened to 5 already Thanks so much Mrs Grainger

Review of Emerald Horizon

Loved both of these books and was happy to have the follow up from Book 1. I wanted the book to continue. A beautiful story of love and survival.
I read Star and Sapphire for my Book Group and I have suggestedEmerald Horizon for next year.

The descriptions of the impacts of war on the people was amazing. Finding good people in horrific times gives an essence of hope.

Emerald Horizon and Star and the Shamrock

I loved the two books I have read so far The woman Reader was wonderful . I felt like I was out side looking in on everything that was happening. I was born in 1937 and I would set at my grandparents table and try to understand what was happening in Europe. I have read so many books on the horrors. But your writings showed me the wonderful people that had helped so many Jews . It certainly was not easy . But your description was very clear what was happening . I don,t like to say this but when I was a child I felt very guilty that we did not do more . Thank you very much😂

A fabulous series

I have been listening to this series on audible. I cannot recommend it enough. I love the characters and their resilience. My father’s family is from Ireland and I love to hear the accent and learn a bit more than our dry history books teach.
