Publisher's Summary

An ancient evil threatens the Elves and the Races of Man. The Ellcrys, the tree of long-lost Elven magic, is dying, unravelling the spell of Forbidding that locks the hordes of Demons away from the world.

Already the fearsome Reaper is free. Only by quickening a new seed in the mysterious Bloodfire can the Ellcrys be reborn and the Forbidding made whole. Amberle, a young Elven girl, is chosen to undertake the quest for the Bloodfire.

The way is perilous, though. Other demons besides the Reaper stalk the land. Amberle will need a protector if she is to prevail, and Wil Ohmsford, heir to the Elven magics of Shannara, is chosen to accompany her.

Amberle's quest and the fate of the Four Lands will rest on Wil's ability to unlock the magic of the mysterious Elfstones of Shannara.

The Elfstones of Shannara is the second volume of the classic series that has become one of the best loved fantasy tales of all time.

A very moving and enthralling story

A beautifully crafted story with all the suspense, mystery, action, character development, potent symbolism and grandeur that oozes with Tolkien at his best. I enjoyed the story more the any of Raymond Feist's books which depend heavily upon dualism, sex, sexism and violence.
Each fantasy writer has their own brand blend of fantasy and adventure.
Terry Brooks does excellently with his female heroes without any hint of sexism. A writer for the young and old.
Very well narrated. I combined reading Omnibus alternating with the Audible.

Scott Brick FTW!

Yep. Scott Brick. F. T. W.
Started these because of the TV show, stayed because of that voice.

Good series, slow in places, overall good.

I'm really enjoying this series. It has some very familiar ideas along to that of SoT, LOTR, and WoT. As long as your aren't precious about who had the ideas first ( I'm not) and you understand that they all follow a very similar structure that is proven to work then I think you'll enjoy them too.

I know people love it but...

I know people love this series but I just can't get into them. I think they're alright i just think they're very similar to books like the lord of the rings etc. normally I can get through an audio book while I'm working in 2-3 days. this one took me 2 weeks to get through.
the narrator is great i just found the book a bit repetitive.
the first in the series was alright so I thought I'd try this but I wish I hadn't wasted my token, they're just not for me 😔

Part of a wonderful fantasy saga.

I've loved Brooks' Shannara books since I was a teenager. I'm just beginning to revisit them now.
This particular story, like all of them is a great piece of escapism. It's certainly not the best in the series but paves the way for bigger and better tales.
The narration can be jarring to begin with but I soon got past it. It'd be nice to have heard more differentiation between the characters in the reading.

Definitely worth any sci-fi fan's time, though those looking for a great listening experience might want to look elsewhere.

Better tan first book

More enjoyable than the first book in the series which was a poor copy of the lord of the rings plot. The second book has encouraged me to carry on with the series but am not a fan of the narrator who has an overly emotional, sing-song style that I find really annoying. Will take a break and listen to something by the excellent Simon Vance, Michael Kramer or Kate Reading.

Love can be self-consuming

The second part of the tale of Shannara. Being one with our whole being is crucial for us all.. but more do when it is a matter of live and death.

For LotR fans, it will be a treat

The story and reading were too slow paced for me, it's very reminiscent of Lord of the Rings. It's good writing, it just didn't captivate me.

Better than the first

What did you like most about The Elfstones of Shannara?

I really enjoyed the story... it seemed to flow much better than the first and held my attention more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Will and Perk. Amberley really frustrated me as I wanted to tell her to man up and get on with things.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I like Scott Brick

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could not have listened to this in one go even if I had wanted to.
